Chapter 3

1273 Words
Mathias “Murderer!” “Beast!” “You are always going to end up alone!” “No one will ever love you. Not even your Pack!” “One day, you will kill them all!” “Just like you killed us!” This has been my ordeal ever since I had my first shift that night in the woods. The moment I tasted their blood and realized the lives I had taken, these voices began haunting me in my head. But for the first time, they ceased torturing me as I heard the strings of Tabitha’s violin echo in my ears. Can she be the one I have been searching for all these years? “Welcome home, Alpha Mathias,” Madam Karen, my chief housekeeper, warmly greeted me with two maids behind her as I stepped out of my black Mercedes G-Wagon. “You’re much later than I anticipated,” she added, but her eyes soon drifted to the small, petite white-haired lady whose hands were bound in chains and a tape latched to her mouth. She was curious. It's been months since I returned home with another woman, especially now that my wedding to Sloane is drawing near. “Alpha—” “She is what kept me late,” I answered her question before letting her finish. She didn’t look satisfied; she wanted to know more. What’s so special about this one? Unfortunately, I can’t tell her as that would mean spilling my secret. I moved to Tabitha, she flinched, yet the intentions in her glare were clear. Unfortunately, it does nothing to me. She’s not the first to nurture deep hatred for me, and she certainly won’t be the last. “How do you like my house, little wolf?” I scoffed, combing her silky hair that made the hair on my skin come alive. She grunted and tilted her head away from me. If it weren’t for the tape on her mouth, venom would have escaped from those lips. “I presume she’s a prisoner, should I ask the guards to take her—” “No!” The word escaped from me faster than it appeared in my head. This one is special. She might be the cure to my curse. “Take her to the guest house,” I commanded, my eyes refusing to leave Tabitha. “And make sure she settles in well.” Madam Karen hesitated, but she signaled to the maids behind her anyway. As Tabitha left my side, I inhaled sharply before her jasmine scent diffused away. My eyes shut, and a long smile spread across my lips. It felt like I was in a meadow, filled with jasmine flowers, enveloped by the warmth of peace. How does she smell so divine when she’s wolfless? “Wait!” my command tore through the air before I approached them. “I’ll take her myself,” I said, unbothered to spare them a gaze. My only focus was Tabitha. I need to know more about her. Without thinking, I grabbed the chains wrapped around her wrists and pulled her as I marched towards the guest house directly beside my mansion. “Alpha Mathias,” the maids greeted me the moment I entered, but I ignored them. Taking Tabitha to one of the rooms designated for newcomers was my new priority. I turned the doorknob open and dragged her in before shutting the door behind me. Her eyes briefly scanned the place. It was small and furnished with basic furniture. Did she like it? Why should I even bother if it is to her liking or not? “This is your room,” the words mindlessly spilled out of me. She fought back with her words, but whatever she said was muffled by the tape. I moved to remove it, but my white-haired violinist thought it wise to thread backwards till she hit the bedframe. She yelped as her back was about to embrace the bed, but I sped to catch her midair. My hand latched to her back, her long curls swayed to the back, dangling midair. And my reward? It was a closer look at her glistening emerald-green eyes. I have encountered many women in my life, none of them has lived up to this priceless piece of art, not even Sloane. Her muffled words drummed in my ears as she protested with her body. I smirked, refusing to let her go, but I tore the tape off her mouth. “Are you happy?!” she spat almost breathlessly, “All tall and mighty preying on the weak!” I wasn’t expecting sugarcoated words anyway, but this one stung deeply. Letting it show on my face would make her feel better that she hurt me. So I donned a smile, the dirtiest one my muscles could offer. “Oh, little wolf, the weak will always be preyed on.” “You disgust me!” The tears completely soaked her eyes, appeasing the wound her words had inflicted before. “Get off me!” Her rage slithered, ferociously wriggling her body. I let her go, and a silent gasp escaped her as she bounced on the bed. My hands locked her in one position as I towered over her body, watching her chest heave up and down with furious breaths, slamming my face. Her hate, frustration, and pain excited me to my bones. “How is a wolfless werewolf like you so ferocious?” The back of my index and middle fingers tenderly toured from her cheek down to her neck. She shuddered like wild currents were coursing through her. She could feel it too, the magnetic pull raging for our bodies to collide. “Tell me…” My finger played on her chin and finally settled on her lower lip. “How did you become wolfless?” She bit her lip, her brows trembling as they arched in confusion. It was only a matter of seconds before she broke. “I’m…” she stopped, biting her lips again. “I’m cursed.” I pulled away from her with the speed of light, almost backed up by the door. Any desire I had for her died in a fleeting moment. How could the cure to my curse be cursed? But the voices…they were still quiet. What is she then? She struggled to sit up with mild surprise tainting her eyes. “How?” The words tasted sour in me. “I–I d-on’t know…I was born this way.” Something shattered in me, perhaps it was hope. My chief elder never mentioned that the one who would cure me would be cursed. In the end, she might just be like the many others: False hope. “You’re not the one I’m looking for.” I rumbled, and her eyes were tainted with cluelessness. I need the Chief Elder; he’s the only one who can truly confirm my suspicion. “Alpha Mathias,” a knock graced the door, breaking our moment. “Come in,” I ordered. The door creaked open, and judging by the scent, I could tell it was Madam Karen. “Sloane has returned to the Pack. She’ll arrive soon at the mansion,” she said. “Call the chief elder, I want to see him immediately,” I said. “Ezra left the Pack some minutes ago.” “What?!” “His daughter has delivered her baby. You would have to wait till tomorrow, Alpha.” My teeth gritted as my glare returned to Tabitha. If she’s not my cure, then why does her music calm me?
