Chapter 4

Sloane Just one day after I left the Pack, my mate had brought in another woman. The wine on my tongue turned sour as my grip tightened on my wine glass. It shattered, painting the floor with crimson liquid and shards of glass. At the same time, Mathias strode into the living room. His eyes sparkled with delight, and a tiny smile complemented his chiseled face. “Mon coeur,” his voice bloomed with a potent mix of calm and desire. “Hey baby…” my lips parted, flaunting the widest grin as I stood from the couch. The last thing I want him to see is my displeasure with his new woman. He has the habit of protecting them from me after all. I spread my arms wide as he walked to me. The moment he embraced me, I bided my time sniffing him. And a whirlpool of mild disgust tormented my belly as jasmine paraded my nose. “How was your business trip?” He inquired, patting my back. “F-fine–” my voice cracked from the irritation that crawled up from my belly and seeped into my throat. Yet I made sure to maintain my cheerful smile as we parted. Whoever this woman was, she’s clearly a threat. The broken glass on the floor caught his attention, earning me a concerned look from him. “What happened?” “I was careless!” I moaned, with a short laugh following through. “Well then, I'd better call one of the maids—” he turned away from me, but my palm latched to his cheek, ordering him to face me back. I didn’t give him time to think; I pressed my lips against his. His hand grew firm on my waist, and his passion roared through his hungry lips. Yes, I missed him, but this isn’t why I kissed him. I wanted to taste his lips, inspect and analyze, and then deduce what she tastes like. But seeing there were no trails of slippery texture on him, I pulled back. His chest vibrated against mine as he rumbled, eyes clouded with arousal. He didn’t like my sudden move. I wasn’t satisfied either; I wanted him completely drowned in the pool of lust. It is usually my ace move to dominate and get whatever I want from him. My lips moved to his ear, nibbling on it while my hand trailed down to his pants, teasing his growing bulge. “Mon coeur.” His breaths dragged out like a storm. “I can smell a woman on you,” I whispered while my hand latched to the back of his neck. “She's nobody,” he grumbled. “I went on a hunt and found her instead.” “And you thought it wise to bring her to the Pack?” My claws extended, grazing his neck. Just one wrong word from him and I’ll make sure they burst into an artery. “She plays the violin, it’s beautiful…” My claws pierced him, but it wasn’t deep. His c**k yearned to rip through; he’s always liked a strong dose of pain whenever we had s*x. His hand moved to my ass, grabbing a flesh full as his claws ripped my slacks. I know I aimed to seduce him, but I couldn’t stop my chords from freeing the sharpest moan. He lifted me to his waist like I was a paperweight, and ferociously claimed my lips. A shiver shot down my spine. But I had to pull my lips away before I lost sight of my plan. How dare he appraise her music like that before me? “What’s so special about her music?” I breathlessly queried with my arms curled around his neck. He grunted, obviously displeased that I cut his pleasure off, but his desperation pushed him to answer me quickly. “It calms the voices in my head.” I frowned. “Is she the one?” “I doubt,” he sighed. “She’s cursed and wolfless. But I can’t jump to conclusions yet. I have to wait for Ezra to return tomorrow.” “But…” I started playing with his already messy hair. “What if she’s not the one?” I watched him closely; his tongue might be skillful with the art of lies, but certainly not his eyes. “Isn’t it obvious? I’ll throw her out.” A lie. His eyes faltered, freeing those words, and my blood boiled. “I want to see her,” I chirped, “I’m curious what this wolfess girl of yours looks like.” He smiled. “Don’t bother, my love. She’s not worth your sight.” He quickly locked my lips with his as if he knew I was going to protest. But I gave in to him as he carried me upstairs. If I can’t see her tonight, I can always see her tomorrow. When the morning dawned, I quietly left Mathias on our bed and snuck to the staff quarters. Madam Karen had already slipped the news to me the moment I arrived last night. As I got to the slut’s door, a knot twisted in my chest, and my fist clenched. But I had to let go and don the most harmless smile: it is no fun when your prey knows you are a predator. The door creaked as I opened it. And as I sauntered inside, my eyes glued to the most beautiful woman I’ve ever met in my life. Her long white hair swayed as she swung out of bed, taking a fierce stand. She had probably thought it was Mathias coming in. “Hi…” I beamed, but all she responded with was a sharp frown. “I’m sorry…I hope I didn’t startle you?” She backed up, her restless heartbeat pounding in my ears. “Oh, no no no,” I raised my hands in surrender. “I won’t hurt you, I promise.” She refused to believe me with those judging eyes. “Who are you?” she queried. My smile deepened. I’m the woman who’s going to end you. “I’m Sloane,” she eased up, “Mathias’s fiancée.” Her brows arched in surprise. “What’s your name?” She hesitated for a moment before she answered. “Tabitha.” I grinned as I walked up to her. She slowly tilted to the side, terrified that I was going to hurt her. Instead, I spread my arms wide for a hug, which shook her to the core. “Nice to meet you, Tabitha.” She refused me, choosing to remain as still as a statue. It was fun to watch her squirm. Mathias, as usual, repeated his playbook: scaring them into silence and obedience. But I wasn’t satisfied with this one. I want to break her, rip her limb by limb as she begs for her pathetic, cursed life. “I understand, I would do the same if I were you,” I whined as I dropped my hands. “Unfortunately, Mat’s reputation precedes him, so it’s easy for anyone to assume everyone here is a monster.” She breathed deeply. “What Pack are you from?” My head popped closer to hers, and she immediately leaned backward, choosing not to let her breath swarm my cheeks. “C-can I…Can I be alone…please?” she stuttered in a tiny voice, and I couldn’t help but break character. Her eyes morphed grim at my dirty smirk, a sharp contrast to my innocent smile. But I wasn’t done yet. I made sure to express my true desires in my aura, and she froze instantly. “If you say so…” I wore a bright beam again as if nothing had happened and strode to the door. As I opened it, I glanced at her, “See you around…Puppy.”
