Samara watched Adalard disappear through the doorway. She rubbed her chest, just over her heart. A sense of surrealism filled her, and she knew it was a form of shock. She looked at the man standing a few feet from her. “Unless you want to see what ugly-crying looks like on a woman, I think it would be best if I had a few minutes alone,” she warned in a voice thick with emotion.
