chapter 3: Deception document

1033 Words
" Mason, are you taking sides with those imbeciles?" Mr. Edward said in a cold tone. "Yes, I think so, Mr. Edward. The document you signed yesterday, it wasn't an ordinary document; it was your own transition document, Mr. Edward." "What the hell are you saying, Mason?" The words echoed in his ears, tears welling up in his eyes, and his voice cracked as he spoke. "I trusted you with that, and you willingly delivered it to these scammers," Mr. Edward said, his eyes brimming with more tears. His face contorted with agony; he stumbled back out of the office, grasping at his chest as if trying to rip out the pain. Sweat beaded on his forehead, and his breathing grew ragged, each gasp a struggle. His eyes, once bright, were now dull, clouding with a mixture of shock and terror. "Mr. Edward, how did the meeting go?" Mr. Edward gave no response to Liam as he spoke. His eyes closed slowly as he collapsed. "Mr. Edward, is everything okay? Oh my God, I think he is having a heart attack! Someone call an ambulance!" They rushed him to the hospital as soon as the ambulance arrived. _ _ _ Harper arrived at the hotel and ran straight down to room 140 as directed. She knocked gently on the hotel door, her voice barely above a whisper as she called out, "Evelyn..." Moments later, the door creaked open. Evelyn stood there, her eyes red and swollen, tears silently streaming down her cheeks. Without a word, Harper stepped forward and wrapped her arms around her. "What’s happening?" she asked softly. Evelyn's voice trembled as she whispered, "I lost my virginity last night." Harper pulled back, stunned. "What? How did it happen?" Harper asked, surprised. As Evelyn tried to respond, tears rolled down her cheeks, and she couldn't get the words out. "Evelyn, that's enough. You've been through too much." She brushed the tears from Evelyn's face and added firmly, "Pack your things; we're leaving." Without protest, Evelyn nodded. They grabbed her bag, left the room quickly, and disappeared from the hotel, driving away without looking back. Just as they were setting off, Harper's phone buzzed with an urgent call from Evelyn's mom. "Have you located Evelyn?" she asked anxiously. "Yes, I have," Harper replied, handing Evelyn the phone. "Evelyn, sweetheart, I'm relieved you're safe. Your father's been admitted to the hospital for urgent care," her mom said, her voice trembling. Evelyn's eyes widened in alarm. "What?" she exclaimed. "What happened?" Her mom's voice trembled as she rushed out, "He suffered a heart attack this morning, triggered by the shocking betrayal of his lawyer and Mrs. Luna, who orchestrated a ruthless takeover of his company." "I'll be there soon, Mom," Evelyn promised. "Harper, I need you to take me to Brookside General Hospital right away; it's an emergency!" Harper's eyes widened in concern. "What happened?" she asked urgently. "My dad has been hospitalized," Evelyn said, her voice shaking. A minute later, they arrived at the hospital. Evelyn rushed to her mother, pulling her into a warm hug. "Where is he?" she asked urgently. Her mom pointed to the room at the end of the hallway. Evelyn walked to the room and ran her hand gently over her father's body. "Father, I'm so sorry... please, wake up," she whispered, tears in her eyes. "Evelyn, it's okay," her mom said softly. "The doctors are doing everything they can; I'm sure he'll wake up soon." "Yes, Evelyn, he will wake up," another voice added. Evelyn turned around and immediately recognized it; it was her aunt Rose. She rushed over and embraced her tightly. "It's been a long time," Evelyn said. "Yes, darling. Far too long," her aunt replied warmly. "I think you'll be staying with me in Germany for a while," Aunt Rose said. "What?" Evelyn replied, surprised. "But..." "Yes, darling," her mother interjected gently. "You need to go and start a new life there, filled with happiness. Staying here will only remind you of everything that happened. Evelyn, please... do this for me." "But what about Father?" Evelyn asked, her voice trembling. "Don't worry," her mother reassured her. "Your sister and I will take care of everything; your passport is ready. Just go, Evelyn." Evelyn hugged her mother tightly and kissed her sister on the forehead before leaving with Aunt Rose. Anger rose in Evelyn like a tide that would not be turned. She breathed a quiet oath into the dusk: no peace would come until her father’s name was restored, and the hands that stole his legacy were unmasked beneath the same moon that watched her vow. Harper, her assistant, accompanied her to the airport. Before parting ways, they exchanged a warm goodbye. _ _ _ "Frederick, it's your first day at the new company," Amelia said as she buttoned his coat carefully. "You need to be well-dressed... and early to work." Her soft brown eyes, full of warmth and affection, locked onto his. Frederick's gaze lingered on her, his heart stirred by her gentle presence. He stepped closer, his hand sliding around her waist, pulling her into a firm but tender embrace. Slowly, he lowered his face towards hers, their breaths mixing, the world around them fading. Just as his lips were about to meet hers— "Frederick!" a voice called out suddenly, snapping the moment in half like glass. They both turned, startled, the romantic tension melting into awkward silence. "I'm so sorry for interrupting, but you're running late," Mason said hurriedly. "We have a meeting this morning at the office, and you're still getting dressed." "I'm not a kid, Mr. Mason," Frederick replied, to which Mason responded, "Then act like a grown-up!" As he walked out of the room with Mr. Mason to take their leave, his mother emerged from her room. "Wow, you look wonderful, son," she said, beaming with pride. She looked expectantly at Mason and kissed his lips, holding his chest tightly. "Please take care," she whispered. Frederick's mind wandered: "When did these two develop romantic feelings for each other?" Frederick cleared his throat with a gentle cough, interrupting the moment. "Shall we?" he suggested, his voice smooth as silk.
