As Lucian prepared to leave the manor, he glanced out the car window. Through the rain, he could see Olivia huddled against the stone wall near the gate.
Her dress was completely soaked, clinging to her body and outlining her curves. Her long hair hung in wet strands around her face, making her look fragile and abandoned.
Lucian understood immediately what had happened. He knew Arora and Lora’s personalities well. They would never be kind enough to arrange for Olivia.
He turned to his assistant Spencer, who was sitting in the passenger seat. “Get out and hold umbrella for her.”
Spencer immediately grabbed the red umbrella from the floor and stepped out into the rain. He walked quickly towards Olivia while Lucian rolled down his window.
“Get in,” Lucian said to me. His voice was characteristically cold and commanding. “I’ll take you home.”
I looked up, startled to see it was Lucian. I instinctively took a step back, shaking my head. “Mr Lucian, it’s okay. The rain will stop soon. I can wait.”
I remembered Lucas’s warning about how dangerous Lucian could be. Lucas had specifically told me to keep my distance from his step-brother. I didn’t want to cause myself any more trouble, especially not tonight.
Lucian’s brow furrowed when he saw me clearly trying to avoid him. His tone grew deeper and more commanding. “Get in the car. Dont make me repeat myself.”
His natural dominance was overwhelming. The way he spoke made it nearly impossible to refuse. I felt my resolve weakening under his gaze.
Before i could refuse again, Spencer appeared before me with the umbrella. He gently took my damp clutch from my trembling hands.
“Ms. Olivia, please get in the car,” Spencer said kindly. “This rain will continue for at least another hour. It’s very windy out here, and you’re not dressed warmly enough. You’ll catch pneumonia.”
Spencer’s tone was gentle and concerned. I glanced up at the dark storm clouds, then down her completely soaked dress. Water was still dripping from her hair. She was starting to shiver uncontrollably.
Finally, biting my lip, I opened the car door and slide inside.
The interior of the Rlls-royce was warm and luxurious. soft leather seats and faint scent of espensive cologne filled the space. I immediately felt the temperature difference.
Lucian glanced at her wet dress, which was now clinging even more tighter to her body. The fabrics had become almost transparent. He could see the outline of her undergarment. His throat tightened involuntarily.
Without a word, he took off his dark gray suit jacket and tossed it to me.
“Thank you,” I murmured, quickly pulling the jacket around my shoulder. It was still warm from his body heat and smelled like his cologne. The scent was surprisingly comforting. “I’ll have it cleaned and return it to you.”
“Just throw it away,” Lucian replied coldly. His tone carried casual arrogance, as if the espensive jacket meant nothing to him.
The car pulled away from the manor and drove smoothly through the rainy night. Silence settled between us. I huddled in the corner of the backseat, not daring to look at the powerful man beside me. I could feel an oppressie aura radiating from him. It made my unconciously nervous.
I stole glances at his profile. His jaw was sharp and perfectly defined. His dark hair was styled impaccably despite the rain. Everything about him screamed wealth and power. He was nothing like Lucas, who was gentle and approachable. Lucian seemed dangerous.
Twenty minuites later the car stopped in front of our house. I quickly gathered myself and reached to the door handle.
“Thank you so much for the ride,” I said hurridly, leaving his jacket on the seat. “ I really appreciate it.”
Lucian watched her disapear inside the house. The faint smell of jasmine perfume still lingered in thecar where she had been sitting.
He found himself breathing it in deeply. His body reacted involuntarily to her proximity.
He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. “she’s your step-brother’s wife,” he warned himself silently. “control yourself.”
As soon as i entered the house, I felt a wave of dizziness wash over me. My body began to feel hot despite my wet clothes. My head feels heavy and confused.
Before i could even change out of my soaked clothes, everything went black. I collapsed in the living room.
When i woke up i found myself lying in a hospital bed. The room smell strongly of disinfectant, but the bedside was covered with familiar treats.
Strawberry shortcakes, colorful macarons, handmade chocolates, and a large bouquet of pinkroses.
“Ma’am, you’re finally awake!” A nurse appeard beside my bedside, looking relieved. You’ve had a high fever for twenty-four hours. Mr Roland was so worried. He stayed by your bedside the entire time. He only left an hour ago because of an emergency call.”
The nurse checked my temperature with a digital thermometer. “Do you want to call him? He’ll be so happy to know you’re concious.”
Looking at the familiar arrangement of gifts, I felt my heart soften despite everything. She had always been prone to illness and had a terrible fear of injections and medication.
Whenever i fall sick Lucas would do exactly this. He would buy all her favourite treats and flowers, hoping to cheer her up and speed her recovery. It had become their tradition over the years.
These sweet memories made my chest ache with confusion. How could the man who cheated on me be the same peron who spent the night worried beside my ospital bed?
Where’s is he now? I asked, pushing myself up in bed. “ I want to find him myself.”
The nurse smiled. “He’s somewhere in the hospital taking care of business.”
I left my room and walk down the sterile hospital corridor.
As i rounded the corner, I stoppped dead in my track.
There was Lucas, coming out of the obestetrics and gynecology department. But he wasn’t alone. A woman walked beside him, her hand resting protectively on her belly.
