Sparks and Shadows

The morning after the parking lot incident, Silverwood College felt… different. The air was thicker. The whispers louder. Every corridor buzzed with one name — Aanya Kapoor. The girl who stood her ground. The girl who dropped Raghav. And of course, the one who made Rudra Mehra — the untouchable — finally look impressed. Students didn’t know whether to worship her or stay out of her way. Aanya walked into the college courtyard like nothing had changed, though the eyes that followed her said otherwise. Every group she passed fell silent. Some smiled, some nodded, others just stared — trying to figure out if she was truly fearless or just insane. Up ahead, near the old canteen wall, Rudra stood with his gang — Kabir, Dev, and Aman — leaning against their bikes, talking in low tones. The second his eyes met hers, the noise around them blurred out. For a heartbeat, it was just the two of them — staring across the crowd, both pretending they didn’t care. But they did. Kabir (teasing): “You can stop pretending you’re not looking, Rudra. We can literally see you staring.” Dev (grinning): “Bro’s got that ‘in denial’ face again.” Rudra rolled his eyes. Rudra: “Shut up.” Kabir: “What’s the plan? You gonna talk to her, or just keep acting like she doesn’t exist while burning holes in the air?” Rudra (smirking): “She already talks too much for both of us.” They laughed, but Rudra’s eyes stayed on Aanya. Something about her — the calm in her walk, the quiet strength — unsettled him in ways no fight ever had. ☕ Aanya’s Side Inside the café, Aanya sat with her books open, pretending to read. Her best friend Jiya couldn’t stop smiling. Jiya: “You realize you’ve become a legend overnight, right? Half the college wants to be you. The other half is scared to death.” Aanya laughed lightly. Aanya: “I didn’t plan any of that. I just… reacted.” Jiya: “Reacted? You flipped a guy and nearly broke his wrist, Aanya. You’re officially the Gangster Queen.” Aanya blushed, shaking her head. But deep inside, a different thought ran through her — Did he see it? Did Rudra watch? She quickly scolded herself. No. Stop it. You said you’d stay away. Still, her heart betrayed her — beating faster at the thought of his dark eyes watching from the balcony. It happened in the hallway after class. Aanya turned a corner — and bumped straight into him. Her books nearly fell, but Rudra’s hand shot out, steadying them. For a second, their fingers brushed. Silence. Then, his voice — low and steady. Rudra: “So… the rumors were true.” Aanya (raising a brow): “Which one?” Rudra: “That you’ve decided to start running your own gang.” Aanya (smirking): “Don’t worry, Mehra. I’m not coming for your throne. Yet.” He couldn’t help it — a small grin tugged at the corner of his mouth. Rudra: “You’ve got guts, Kapoor. But guts get people hurt.” Aanya: “And fear keeps people small.” The tension between them hung thick in the air — not hostility, not flirtation — something in between, something alive. Rudra (quietly): “You shouldn’t have gotten involved with me.” Aanya: “You didn’t give me much choice. I only followed what I believed in.” For a second, Rudra forgot how to breathe. This girl — she didn’t bow, didn’t back down. She met his darkness with light, and somehow, the two didn’t clash. They fit. As Rudra walked away, Kabir nudged him again. Kabir: “So, you two done pretending now? Because the tension between you could light the whole college on fire.” Rudra (smirking): “She’s trouble.” Dev: “Yeah. The kind you like.” Rudra didn’t deny it this time. He just looked over his shoulder once — catching Aanya’s gaze again across the hallway — and for the first time, didn’t look away. 🌙 Aanya’s POV – That Night Back home, Aanya sat on her balcony, her brother Ishan Kapoor playing guitar in the next room. She couldn’t stop replaying the moment his hand catching her books, the spark in his eyes, the way he said her name like a warning and a secret at the same time. Why does it feel like I’ve known him forever? She sighed, staring at the stars. “You say you’re danger, Rudra Mehra,” she whispered softly. “But somehow… I feel safest when you’re near.” ❤️ Rudra’s POV – The Same Night Rudra leaned against his balcony railing, looking out at the city lights. Kabir and Dev had long left. The night was quiet — except for the thoughts racing in his head. > She should’ve been scared of me. Everyone is. But she’s not. And that’s what scares me now. He smirked faintly, shaking his head. “Aanya Kapoor…” he murmured to himself. “What are you doing to me?” The moon hung above — silent, knowing — watching the storm that was only beginning to form between the gangster and his fearless fan.
