Out of the comfort Zone
Vivienne's POV.
I had never understood the concept of a ‘sacrificial lamb’ until this day, the day my father looked me in the eyes and agreed to force me into an arranged marriage just to save himself from going broke.
“You may not know him, but the Alpha knows you; he has seen you, and he wants you,” Robertson continued.
Now, he wasn't my father anymore, he was a monster, a heartless man selling me off to another cruel and brutal king.
“So I'm worth nothing to you?” I asked, tears streaming down my face.
I was scared, hopeless, and confused. How did all this happen without my knowledge? Why did my father keep it a secret until the dying moment?
“You are everything to me, honey. But you gotta do this. You can't say no, it's treason,”
“No it's not. I can reject him if I want to. Telling me your business is failing won't change anything.”
“So you'd rather be selfish and watch our family crumble, watch your brother drop out and our name turn into an object of ridicule?” He yelled, pointing his fingers at me.
“Yes, yes, Dad. Call me selfish, but I won't let you throw me into a situation I never wanted to be in the first place,” I yelled back, racing out of his office in tears.
“You'll do what I tell you to. They'll be here by noon to pick you up You'd better get yourself prepared,” he warned, his voice echoing through the air.
Fuck whatever he thought, to hell with the Lycan king, and our pack could kiss my ass for all I cared. There was no way I was ruining my life to save my family's name.
I slumped hard on my bed as the tears flowed like a fountain. I couldn't even call Brianna because she was acting strange.
“Who am I kidding?” I sobbed silently. I knew my father's words were final. I could fight all I want but I'd end up giving in anyway. He was all I had and my younger brother after our mother's death when we were still toddlers.
“Have you cried enough,” my wolf, Lysander, said to me.
“No. Maybe I'd be grateful if my eyes fell out. I'm fucked.”
“You totally are,” Lysander replied.
“Goodness, you are not helping,” I snorted, wiping the tears off my eyes.
“There's nothing to say that could help us. We are in this together, I have no options too,”
“You are right,” I sniffled, wrapping my hands around my pillow. “I just can't believe my father agreed to this, I thought he loved me.”
I spent the whole afternoon in panic, looking out my window at every sound I heard outside. Just a day ago, I had no care in the world, but suddenly, I got to watch my world crumble before my eyes.
Worse, I was spending the ruins of my life with a man who I thought was cold.
He was a murderer or so I heard.
His position was the only thing that silenced people, that and his incredible strength, speed, and skills. Everyone knew better than to become an enemy to the Lycan king.
Maybe my father truly had no choice, but what I couldn't understand was why he kept this a secret from me. Why did he never tell me about the state of our finances?
Hours quickly passed by and as the sun tucked itself into the shadows of the cloud, a ride came to pick me up.
My feet froze on the spot as I stared at the car that was supposed to take me to the palace. Why couldn't they wait till I was actually married to him? Why did I have so many questions?
Why me? Did I lose good graces with the universe?
“Vivienne,” a soft knock echoed on my door. “It's time to go,”
“But I don't want to,” a second stream of tears came streaming down my face. “We can find a way… another way”
“Vivienne, this is the only way. If there was another way, I would have…”
“Liar! You just want to kick me out. You don't want me anymore.” I cried.
“Come on, you know that's a lie,” my father replied, heaving a sigh.
“No, I don't,” I sniffled.
He went silent after that. Minutes later, I opened up the door and slowly walked down the stairs, my eyes sore from crying all day.
“Does Jason even know about this?” I said to myself.
My younger brother was still in college, but I couldn't help but wonder if my father had actually told him about our debts and our failing companies. Was he aware that they planned to force me into a marriage to secure his future?
The door slammed shut in my face as soon as I hopped into the car.
The Lycan king's palace, a place where even the nobles and the elders dreaded, was going to be my new home. I had no tears left to cry.
My eyes were just swollen and my mood ruined for the rest of my life.
We got to the palace earlier than I thought. The first thing I noticed was the air echoing with the sound of my breath. It felt… cold, scary, and devoid of life I would say.
Beautiful? Yes. It was ten times bigger than my house, but it had the smell of a forsaken manor.
I was pretty sure whispers sounded like loud cheerings around here.
“Welcome, ma'am, we'll show you to your room.” Two women dressed in black gowns and white aprons walked up to me. They bowed their heads and remained so until I cleared my throat and nodded in silence.
We walked for a few minutes until we got to the end of the hall. They showed me my room. It left me feeling like a void in my heart had expanded into a blackhole.
“We'll take our leave so you can rest for tomorrow,” they said in unison, their voices echoing with a creepy vibe.
“I don't think I'll need you tomorrow. I'll stay locked up in here,” I hissed, moving towards the bed to feel the sheets.
“Locked up,” the brown haired lady spoke up.
“Yes,” I repeated.
“But… you…that can't…” she paused.
“You got something to say? Don't waste my time,” I voiced.
“You can't stay locked up in your room all day, it's a big day tomorrow,” she voiced out.
“Tomorrow? And what's so special about tomorrow,” I asked, arching a brow.
“The wedding's tomorrow. Ma'am,”
My heart sank as my ears perked up. The hairs on my skin jolted up as if a surge of electricity coursed through me.
