Serena's POV
I shake my head in denial. I remember him saying that I was his mate but I chose to ignore it, I chose to store it in the furthest recesses of my consciousness and act like I never heard those words because it was impossible.
"No I'm not," I respond with a blank expression on my face.
Nicholae, stares at me, exasperated. "Of course you are, I don't know why you are denying it but you are my mate, we both know that."
I shake my head in refusal. "No I'm not. It's impossible. I can't have a mate."
"What do you mean you can't have a mate. I'm standing right here in front of you." He says, with a hint of annoyance.
"No, no, you don't understand. I can't have a mate because I already had a mate."
The look of disbelief on his face widens into a smile. "Do you mean you remember? I know I look a bit different since the past five centuries but don't you think it's a stretch that you don't recognize me? I-"
The bewildered look on my face stops him short. "I'm not talking about you, I mean I already have a mate."
The ache in my chest brings back memory of my rejection once more. Will this pain never go away? "I mean, I had a mate."
The sudden growl I hear makes me snap my head up. Nicholae is visibly trembling now, his frame seems to have multiplied. This aura is much more violent that anything I have felt from him. "Who is it?"
"I said, who is it?" He grabs me by both hands and shakes.
He releases me and I whimper, curling in to myself with my hands over my head to block out the sound of glass crashing against the wall and the sound of furniture breaking, curtains being ripped apart as light floods the room. His angry roar causes shivers to run down my spine.
Suddenly, it all stops when I hear the loud bang of the door being slammed shut.
It feel almost like an eternity before I can finally stop trembling and pull myself back together again.
I take a look around the room and take in the c*****e that Nicholae, no, Alpha Nicholae left in his angered wake, the curtainless windows bringing all the c*****e under the glare of the sun.
The entire room is a mess, there are shards of glass all over the floor along with broken pieces of furniture.
The scene in front of me brings back memories from my time in the Blood Moon Pack. Alpha Michael would always throw a tantrum anytime he got upset.
The only difference in this case, is that Michael never stopped there, he always took out what was left of his anger on me.
I was too lost in the moment, thinking that he was different, that this place was different, but I was wrong. Although he hasn't hurt me, who knows when he would do so. I shudder to think what Nicholae would do to me in his anger.
I'm not waiting around to find out if I eventually will. I have to get out of this place, wherever this place was.
Immediately the thought comes to mind, the door knob turns, I freeze, fearing that Alpha Nicholae came back. I heave a sigh of relief when I see that it is only the Raven, female Alpha I freaked out in front of the last time.
Her mouth pulls into a straight line as she takes in the c*****e in front of her.
"Seriously," She sighs, "could you be any more clueless?
My heart leaps in my chest. Could it be that she blames me for the damage done? A shiver runs down my spine, or even worse, did Nicholae send her her to punish me.
Our eyes meet across the room. She looks at me and back to the mess in front and I scramble done the bed and start picking up the shards of glass on the floor.
"I'm sorry," I say, my voice shaky, "I'll clean it right up." Maybe if I cleaned up the mess she would be less angry, or at least, punish me less.
She goes to me in an instant crouching down to stop. "Stop that, you'll hurt yourself."
The note of worry in her tone causes me to snap my head up, but it's too late, a piece of glass cuts my palm and she is by by side in an instant.
She is by my side in an instant. "I told you to stop that," I don't look at her but fix my gaze on the ruby droplets spilling from my palm.
"Put pressure on the cut." She says, literally cradling me in her arms and gently placing me on the bed like I weigh nothing.
"You really have you regards for your own safety do you?" She says with a hint of annoyance as she fusses over my bleeding hand.
"I'm sorry." I mumble, suddenly feeling shy.
"Stay put. I'll be right back."She orders and I nod my head in response. She sighs and walks out the door.
I sit there, stunned. What just happened? She definitely looked like she almost, cared that I was hurt.
Now that I recall, during my last encounter with her, she wasn't trying to hurt me, in fact she tried her best to reassure me when I was panicking.
She brings in a tray with a few items in it.As she draws closer to me, I see that the tray contains disinfectant and cotton swabs.
She places them on the bed next to me and starts gently treating the wound.
"I seems like every time we meet you're always bleeding. This going to sting a bit." She says, pouring the disinfectant on the cut and I wince.
"It's not your fault both times were as a result of my own clumsiness." I respond quietly.
A small smile graces her face. "So you do speak, I was beginning to think my presence scared you into silence." She wouldn't be wrong there, Raven looks like someone that would scare even an Alpha.
Hearing a tinkling laugh, my head snaps up. "I didn't know you thought of me that way." My face reddens as I realize I must have stopped out loud.
Flustered, I try to apologize. "I- I didn't mean to offend you I just-"
She waves the apology away, her eyes crinkling as amusement dances in her eyes. "It's fine, I'll take it as a compliment."
She cleans my wounds and wraps it in gauze. "You know Luna," I flinch at the title. I'm still not used to people calling me that.
"just so you know, I was referring to the Alpha being clueless when I came in earlier." My eyes widen in surprise.
"How could you say that, aren't you afraid of being punished?" She just smirks at me.
"I'd like to see him try" There's a wild look in her eyes that tells me she would relish going toe to toe with the Rogue King.
"Well, I'm done here. Make sure you don't get into any more accidents. I'll send someone up to clean the mess here." She rises and turns to leave.
"Wait! As I grab hold of her callused hands, she turns and gives me a puzzled look.
