Nicholae's POV
From the joint landscape my consciousness rests in when Orion takes over, I can see our mate visibly gulp at the bloodlust I'm sure is in Orion's eyes
"W-what do you mean dead?" She stammers.
Although her timid nature is appealing all in itself, we both agree that this nature of hers was forced upon her by circumstances.
"I mean," he takes a strand of her hair and plays with it and she just stands there, transfixed. He seems to be obsessed with her silver locks.
In her previous life, she had gorgeous golden hair. She's different but no less beautiful than before, I would even say that her features are more ethereal.
"there is no way they would live after they dared to harm you. You said all the touch you've experienced was either violent or harmful, so I will conclude that it has been going on for a long time."
Her eyes widen in surprise like it's unheard of for someone to be willing to decimate those who dared to touch her.
"What did you think would happen to them when they dared to touch what belongs to me?" Orion pulls my lips in a bloodthirsty grin and I can't deny that I would also relish ending them.
Her quickening pulse only seems to excite him more, the grin on his face widens.
"Did you think I would not hunt every single one of them down, rip out their inside, and bathe in their blood?" I agreed with Orion's graphic description. Even that would not be punishment enough.
My mood darkens as we both notice the healed scar on her hand. It had to have been done by silver. She would never heal from the scar. Unbridled rage rips through me at that thought that we were not there for her when she needed us. No matter, we would rectify this and lay the heads of all those who hurt her at her feet.
"For every scratch they put on your body, I will break a limb. They thought they hurt you? They haven't even begun to know the definition of violence. So," He takes her chin in his hand, running a thumb across her lips.
"I want names." Orion lifts up the arm where the word 'outcast' is branded onto her flesh and lands a gentle kiss on it, punctuating each word with another kiss. "Don't leave a single. person. out."
"Let's start with the dead man who marred your beautiful flesh." He whispers.
Although his actions are gentle, I can feel the rage and anger coming from him in waves. I know because it's the same feeling that I'm experiencing right now. I am impressed at his restraint.
In a different situation, he would have been releasing waves of dominance by now but he is controlling himself because of our mate.
"His name, little one, I want his name." A little bit of Orion's anger bleeds out in his tone.
"P-please, don't. He'll kill me, he'll......" She starts hyperventilating, her breathe is coming out in short bursts. Orion just stands there, helpless on what to do.
Immediately, he returns control back to me. Just like the bastard to run away when dealing with emotions. I quickly get to work on calming her down.
"It's okay, Mea Lunaria, you're safe. No one is going to kill you." I gather her up in my arms, whispering words of comfort in her ears.
She is still hysterical as as clutches me tightly. "Nicholae, he'll kill me. I can't, I-I-I can't...." I hide my surprise at the fact that she is able to notice the change in me and comfort her instead.
"Just breathe fir me mi amore, I need you to breathe. In and out, good that's good you're doing great. You're okay, you're okay." I clench my jaw. Who could have done this to my mate? I pull her even closer to my chest.
"I won't allow it Mea Lunaria, not as long as there is breath in my lungs. I'll end whoever dares to." My voice hardens as I make her that promise.
"Who is the person you're so scared of? Tell me." The fear in her eyes returns as she clutches me tightly.
"Please, just promise me you won't go looking for him. Please. He can't know I'm here." She sobs,
"Who? Mea Lunaria, tell me who it is." She doesn't reply, she just trembles in my arms. My lips pull into a thin line.
I don't ask her any questions after that. I just stroke her hair and after a while she calms down. I hold her at harms length and look her over.
"Are you alright? Did Orion frighten you?" I scan her body just to be sure.
I know Orion didn't do anything to harm her but he is excited now and might be a bit rough with her. He blocked me out for a minute earlier and I couldn't see or hear what what going on. He was only able to do so because I voluntarily handed over control to him though. I wouldn't be making that mistake again if this is the way she's going to react.
"I didn't do anything to her you idiot." Orion scoffs.
"He didn't do anything, we didn't do anything." She quickly responds, looking away quickly. Interesting, I'm surprised at how she goes from petrified to flustered. What could Orion have done to have made her blush so prettily.
"The exact same thing you're thinking." He responds smugly through our mind link.
"Damn it, Orion I told you to be careful with her. Goddess knows what she's been through and I-"
"Oh please, I just teased her a bit. Besides, the little one seems to have enjoyed it." The bastard wolf gives me a cocky grin.
"You're just upset you weren't able to get her to blush so prettily." He was not wrong about that though, my curiosity gets the better of me and I ask.
"What exactly did you do when you blocked me out?" He sends mental images of how he teased her to me. I feel myself getting hard at the thought of our mate's flushed face and Orion's hands all over her.
"Now who's getting ahead of himself?" He says smugly.
"Now, can you tell me why you seemed so upset since Orion didn't do anything?"
Her eyes widen in shock. "You heard what he asked me?"
"Of course I did, well except for the part where he blocked me that it. Isn't it the same for your wolf spirit too?"
She pulls away from me and. retreats into herself. "Nothing," she mutters. I press further instead.
"What is the name of the person you were so scared of, the person you didn't want me to look for. Was it Greyson?" She tenses up at the mention of the Alpha and lashes out at me instead.
"I said it's nothing. Why can't you just leave it already!" She yells, her eyes flashing.
I prefer her angry at me than frightened, Orion agrees too. So I push her further. "No I won't. I can't leave things when it comes to you."
Her eyes flash wildly at me. "I have nothing to do with you. There is nothing between us so why can't you leave things alone!"
Frustration wells up in me. Orion growls at her denial of our relationship. I had been gentle with her because I knew what she went through but I refused to let my mate deny me. Not after I had been tortured for centuries not knowing if she would return to me.
"You want to know why?"
"Why?" She retorts.
"Because you are my mate!"
