Chapter 2: She Wants Him, He Doesn’t Care

412 Words
Chloe couldn’t stop smiling. Not because she was happy. But because fate had just handed her the most delicious twist. Ethan Walker—the cold-eyed doctor who treated her like a chart instead of a woman—was her childhood fiancé? Oh, darling fate, you had no idea who you were playing with. Chloe Reed never lost. --- Later that night, while sipping hospital soup like it was wine, Chloe tapped her phone until she reached her assistant. “Rachel,” she said, voice still husky from the pain meds, “Find everything about Dr. Ethan Walker. Every article. Every ex. Every breath.” Rachel paused. “Are you… stalking your doctor now?” “I’m researching my fiancé,” Chloe said with a smug smile. “Apparently, I’m engaged. It’s only fair I do my homework.” --- The next morning, Ethan entered her room like a storm—cold, precise, untouchable. “How are you feeling?” he asked without looking at her. “Deliriously in love,” Chloe purred. He blinked once. “Side effects of medication?” “No. Side effects of finding out I’m engaged to a walking marble statue.” Ethan sighed. “Miss Reed—” “Chloe,” she corrected with a smirk. “Or your fiancée, if we’re being traditional.” He finally looked at her. “Let’s get something clear,” he said calmly. “Whatever arrangement our families made means nothing to me. I have no intention of marrying a spoiled actress who treats people like toys.” Chloe’s smile didn’t falter. “Oh, sweetheart,” she said, leaning back on the pillow, “you’ll learn I’m no toy. I’m the game itself.” --- That evening, Ethan walked past the nurses' station, annoyed. “She’s flirting,” he muttered. Nurse Jenna snorted. “She’s Chloe Reed. Of course she’s flirting. The real question is—why are you blushing, doc?” “I’m not—!” “Oh, you are.” He walked away, fuming. --- Meanwhile, Chloe received a message from her agency. Mila’s replacing you. You’ve been officially dropped from your next film. The studio’s siding with her. Her fingers trembled. For a moment, her arrogant smirk cracked. Then her eyes lit up with fire. “They want a comeback story?” she whispered. “I’ll give them one.” She looked at Ethan’s name on the patient board. “And I’ll start with you, doctor.”
