Adam woke from his light to doze when his phone pinged with a text from their group of friends. He swiped at the screen to read the messages.
Jake and Emmett were on their way over.
Mitch will most likely be significantly later.
Adam looked at the woman who was still dozing with her head in his lap. He ran his fingers lightly down the side of her face, she didn’t even twitch a muscle. He lifted her head, slipped out from under her and went to the bathroom.
She was still sleeping when he came back. He smiled and decided to take her to her bed so she could sleep as much as she needed to until the guys got there.
He crouched and slipped his arms under her. He hefted her up and shifted her weight so he could comfortably carry her. He turned and took her the few steps to her bedroom and laid her in her bed. He pulled the blankets over, then brushed the hair from her face.
He leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to her temple, then turned and walked out, softly shutting the bedroom door behind him.
Thirty minutes later Mitch’s cell phone rang. He looked down and saw it was Adam.
He quickly answered, giving it the second it needed to link up and come through his Bluetooth before he spoke.
“Hey man, are you able to talk for a few minutes?” Adam asked without preamble.
“For a few. What’s going on? Everything okay?” Mitch asked.
“Jade is still having night terrors. This morning, I caught her on a tail end of a cleaning spree to calm her nerves.” He paused, “On her hands and knees.”
“s**t. Did she damage her injuries any further?” Mitch asked.
“I’m not sure. I’d prefer to take her in for CT scans again, but I can’t justify it. We’ll see how her pain is this week.”
“Okay. Are you guys there now?”
“Yea.”
“Where’s Jade?”
“In her room sleeping.” Jake supplied.
“She was sleeping when we got here and has been still.” Emmett added.
“Okay. So what are you thinking, Adam?”
“I think we should discuss rotating whose working and keep her company.”
“I don’t think she’ll go for that. Look how much teeth pulling it took for her to let us pay to take her to a movie.”
“Worth a shot to at least give her that option.” Jake said.
“Yea.” Mitch said, already thinking. But Emmett was already going down the same thought path.
“How about we’ll set it up, so that one of us is available to her. Then she has the support there if she needs it. I also think we should be serious about one of us staying with her, or she with us during her post op recovery.”
“Exactly.” Mitch said.
“I like that.” Jake said.
“ ‘kay. When she wakes up, we’ll talk to her about it.” Adam said.
“Alright. I’ll call when I’m off.” Mitch said, then ended the call.
