A Long Night for Two

494 Words
Jade laid in the bed staring up at the ceiling in the dark. They got home late from the restaurant, and she was exhausted, so she immediately showered intending to go to bed right away. But now that she was laying in the bed all alone, she was wide awake. She fervently wished that Adam would give in to temptation and come join her. She secretly wanted to a repeat of the night that he and Jake had given her. She wasn’t sure how it’d go with her cast, which added to lack of confidence. She could hear Adam moving around in the apartment, taking care of who knows what. So she knew he wasn’t asleep already. She tried to build up the will to get up and ask him to lay with her. She clenched her fists as she tried to tell herself all she had to do was open the door. She rolled over in exasperation over her own cowardice. Who was she trying to fool? She wasn’t pretty on a good day, so she stood no chance on a day like today. She was awkward with a casted hand, and she can’t even do her hair or any kind of proper makeup since she’s one handed. She inhaled a deep breath of the bedsheets. God, they smelled ah-maz-ing. They smelled like Adam. Her mouth watered and immediately her core thrummed with heat. Great. Now she was lonely and turned on. She was an absolute wreck. She pulled a pillow over her face and softly yelled in frustration. Jade laid there, hugging the pillow, and staring at the dark wall while she tried to mentally will Adam to come join her in the bed. She fell asleep dissatisfied and unsure of herself. ****************************************** Adam stood at the door to his own room for several minutes. This was at least the third time he stopped in front of the door. He could’ve sworn he heard her yell out in her sleep. As awful as her night terrors were, he was looking for an excuse to join her and hold her in his arms. He could probably just go in anyways and be welcomed by her, but he was a respectful man. He didn’t want to coerce her into any kind of uncomfortable situation. Especially, considering her reaction earlier in the day when she mistook the arrangement of her sleeping in the master room, as his intention to bed her right away. She probably didn’t feel good and didn’t want to be disturbed. So he respected her wishes and walked away from the door. No matter how much it tore his heart to not go in there and hold her to him. He sat on the couch and turned the tv on to low volume. He prepared himself for a long and excruciating night.
