Jade sat out on her porch. She drank her tea lost in her thoughts. She watched the sun set like she had many times before while out on her patio. She watched the security lights on the apartment buildings across from her blink on.
She looked out in the sky watching for the bats that come and visit. She watched them swoop around the light at the building across the parking lot for a few minutes.
She took a drink and when she went to set it down. She fumbled with it sitting securely. Then she realized she couldn’t see where her cup holder was in her chair. Something wasn’t right. She can usually see abstractly in the dim light, not be damn near completely blind like she is now.
She quickly leaned forward and looked out over her patio’s rail to look up at the light on her building.
