Under The Starry Sky

Chapter 3

BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!

That's got to be the worst sound in the world. I hate waking up to an alarm clock. But I've got to get up so I can take a shower and get ready. I've got an hour before I have to meet up with Lilly for breakfast before we go to the mall.

I go to may closet and pick out an outfit. My favorite dark blue skinny jeans and a black T-shirt. I set my clothes on my bed and make my way to my bathroom. Luckily for me, I have my own bathroom since I'm the only girl who lives on this floor of the pack house.

It was Alpha Nicholas's suggestion. He treats me like I'm his daughter. He only has a son. The future Alpha. He was my brother's best friend. Mark, my brother, was supposed to be his Beta.

I take my time in the shower enjoying the hot water. My brown curly hair hasn't been washed in a few days so I make sure I give it a good shampoo and conditioning. I clean my body and get out.

My hair usually takes the longest so I dry it and apply product. It always get frizzy on humid days. I put on a little eyeliner and mascara since I don't really need makeup nor do I like it. I check the time.

"Damn, I've got 15 minutes to get to the diner."

I put my clothes on and grab my converse. My purse is all ready to go with my wallet and everything else I may need.

I glance around my room to make sure I don't forget anything.

All good! Time to go! I lock my room up and head down the stairs. Everyone else should be at training but a few omegas are cleaning.

"Hey Stacy!" I call to the omega dusting " Would you mind tiding up my room a bit. I'm in a rush and won't have time to do it this weekend since it's my birthday."

Stacy is the only omega I trust in my room. She is next in line to be the head omega. We treat our omegas with respect and dignity. I've heard of other packs who treat them like slaves.

"Of course. It will be no problem. Will you be out all day?"

" Yes I will. I should be back by 9 pm. I'll be out shopping with Lilly."

" Have fun! Oh, and by the way Alpha wanted me to ask you what kind of cake you would like." Stacy says

"Um... Red Velvet with cream cheese icing sounds really delicious." My mouth waters just thing about it.

"Ok, I'll let him know."

I turn to leave but I run into the last person I want to see.

" Hey beautiful where's the fire." Brandon asks with a look I call trying to be sexy.

" I'm late and do not have time for your crap right now. Wait, aren't you supposed to be at the training fields. You know if you get caught skipping again, you're in a lot of trouble." I smirk hoping he will just go away.

" Aw, you wouldn't get me in trouble would you?" He tries to look sad "You wouldn't want your future mate-"

I gag " Whoa, let me stop you right there. We are NOT mates nor will we ever be. I pray to Luna that she doesn't pair me with you. If she does I'll just reject you!"

" What's wrong with me? You'll be 18 this weekend and then we will see but mark my words. You will be begging for me" He snickered.

" Yeah, no thanks. You sleep with every she wolf who spreads her legs for you and your a bully to anywho doesn't bend to your will. Who would want some one like you? I've got to go. Bye!" I roll my eyes and leave him standing there looking like an i***t.

Ten minutes later I finally arrive at the diner. Lilly is already here waiting on me. I'm seven minutes late.

" Damn girl what took you so long?" She inquires.

" Ran into Brandon as I was trying to leave the pack house. Dude can't take a hint. He creeps me out. Everytime I see him he says something worse than the last time. ugh!"

"Well, hopefully one of the big bad alphas from another pack is your mate. There will be a few at the party this weekend. I know it's your birthday party but I also know Alpha Nicholas hope a lot of wolves will find their mates so he invited a lot of people from other packs." She says excited.

I just roll my eyes " You of all people should know I don't want a mate. Why even bother?"

" I know what happened to Mark really hurt you but you can't close yourself off from love. Look at the people here who have mates. They look so in love."

I know deep down she is right "But what about the ones who have lost their mates or have been betrayed by them. I don't think my heart could handle that. Plus a mate could also be a weakness. I can't afford to be weak because of some one else"

She looks at me exasperated "It's a risk you just have to take. Plus knowing you, your mate is a badass. You're too stubborn and strong to get a weak mate. You should stop being so closed off to the idea."

I know she means well but ever since Mark died trying to save his mate, I just can't open myself back up to the idea of mate. I know she really loves him but why would she have put him in that situation. She could have told an elder or some one else and escaped. Alpha Nicholas would have taken her in.

"Are you ready to go shopping?" Lilly tries to lighten the mood.

" I guess. Let's go."
