Dear Nell, Writing this letter is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do, and I’ve had to do some pretty awful things in my lifetime. I hope you know that I never intended to hurt you. If I’m being honest, a part of me always feared that I might. It’s why I tried to be so careful with you—to take things so slowly. You have no idea how much I hoped I was wrong to fear that, but today I realized that I wasn’t. It’s all so confusing to me. It has been since I met you, and it hasn’t gotten any clearer. I truly believe that you are my soul mate, Nell—that fate meant to bring us together. I don’t think anything could ever change my mind about that. But I believe that Peter and Alexandria were soul mates, too. They did something beautiful for the universe: they created this place.
