Being treated in such a manner by one's own parents is nothing short of cruel. Every child is special and should be treated as such.
Moreover, it's impossible to compete with the perfection of the dead. I can't imagine trying to outdo someone I never even got to meet. How hard it must have been for him…..
But then my pessimistic side rears its ugly head once more.
‘Why should I believe anything he says? For all I know, he could just have concocted this story as a way to gain my sympathy. He's lied to me many times before so it would be unwise to trust anything he says.
