When they returned at the villa, Veronica was flooded with questions. There were so many thoughts swirling in her mind that she didn’t know how to start asking Javier.
The man noticed this, so before they had dinner, he pulled her out to the balcony. “What’s bothering you?” he asked, getting straight to the point.
She didn’t hold back and told him what was on her mind. “You said that from now on, you won’t call me by my name, Veronica. I’m Beatrice now, right?”
“Right. Are you not okay with that?”
“It’s not that I’m not okay with it. I mean, I understand that in everyone’s eyes, I have to be Beatrice Romanov. But even with you? Do I really have to completely abandon my old identity?” She wasn’t against it; she just wanted to hear Javier’s reasoning.
He shrugged. “I think it’s more practical for everyone if we start calling you Beatrice from now on. Look at you—head to toe, you are Beatrice. No one could say otherwise unless they do a DNA test or force you to shift. Other than that, you’re Luna Beatrice. I could still call you by your real name, but that’s risky. I might slip up and call you Veronica in front of a crowd. Everything we’ve worked for would be ruined. I hope you understand.”
She knew deep down that Javier had a point. It really was a wiser decision for her to fully become Beatrice. It was better than getting caught in their own lie. But there was a sadness in her, knowing that her identity as Veronica Albert-Fuentebella would disappear into thin air, as if she never existed.
But that’s just how life is, right? Life is never fair. She had to go with the flow because the world wouldn’t stop turning just because things were unfair to her.
She nodded, forcing a smile. “Of course, I understand. Are we going back to the metro tomorrow?”
“Yes. We can’t live here while executing our plan. It’s too far from civilization, and it’s a hassle for me when I go to the company. If we live in the city, your existence will be more believable,” he replied.
There were still so many questions she wanted to ask. Other questions made her feel shy, but he needed to know her concerns. “I know you still have your parents, Javier. Are we going to tell them the truth?”
He looked out at the vast land that stretched as far as the eye could see. He sighed. “Yeah, I guess so. They know that Beatrice is truly gone. We can’t lie to my parents. And prepare yourself—they won’t easily understand why we’re doing this.”
She swallowed hard, feeling a bit nervous. She’d already been traumatized by an evil mother-in-law. “F-For sure, they’ll figure out that I’m a pure-blooded human. Will my life be in danger, and will they be angry?”
“They’ll definitely be angry and shocked. That’s a given, especially since they’re my parents. But don’t worry. My parents aren’t like Angelo’s—they’re not bad people. They will never hurt you, I promise,” he assured her, and somehow, his words eased her mind.
“W-Will we be living in your parents’ house? Because we’re going to live under one roof, right?”
The man shook his head. “No, we’re not going to live in my parents’ house. We’ll be staying at my house, where Beatrice and I used to live. We’ll have more freedom to make our plans there. And of course, the Black Moon Pack would be suspicious if we didn’t. In everyone’s eyes, you are Luna Beatrice, and it’s only natural that we live in the same house.”
“Do you really think I can convince everyone that I’m Beatrice Romanov?” She doubted her own abilities.
He stepped closer to her, placing both hands on her shoulders, gently turning her to face him. “Yes, I trust you. I know you can do this. Lucy trained you hard. I saw all the sacrifices you made. You have to believe in yourself. If you don’t believe you can do this, how can you expect others to believe in you? It’s getting late. Let’s have dinner so we can go to bed early. Tomorrow is going to be a long day.”
Javier was right. She needed to trust in her own abilities. She had to think of herself as Beatrice Romanov. He was right—no one would know if she was truly Beatrice or not, unless they performed a DNA test.
She followed his lead, and they ate dinner quietly. Afterward, she went up to her room to rest. She couldn’t believe how quickly time had passed. She had lived here in the Villa with Javier for a year. She missed her family so much, but she couldn’t give them any clue that she was still alive because it would put their lives in danger if the Fuentebellas found out.
She was lying in bed when Angelo's face and his family's image suddenly appeared in her mind. She clenched the blanket in her hands, feeling an intense surge of anger in her chest.
"The day is coming when our paths will cross again, Angelo. But this time, I won’t be a loser. Our worlds will be turned upside down, and you will taste the wrath of my revenge! I won’t leave you with anything, and you’ll crawl back into the mud where you belong!" her mind screamed in fury.
Veronica fell asleep with thoughts of revenge consuming her.
The next morning, everyone moved as if they had wings. After eating, they quickly packed up their essential belongings—there weren’t many since, according to Javier, they wouldn’t need much in the city. A driver came to pick up the housemaids, who were driven back to the metro in a large van.
The only ones left were her, Javier, Jordan, and Nick. They would be using Javier’s personal car. Before getting into the car, she took one last look at the grand Villa, whispering a small thank you to it for witnessing her transformation and for being the place where she had grown stronger.
"Get some sleep. We’ll be on the road for a few hours," Javier urged her. He was sitting next to her in the backseat, while Nick was driving, with Jordan in the passenger seat.
Due to her nerves and mixed emotions, she soon fell asleep again. She woke up when she felt Javier gently tapping her, the warmth of his breath brushing against her face.
“Wake up, sleepyhead. We’re here,” Javier nudged her gently.
She blinked her eyes a few times, immediately noticing the beautiful and enormous mansion in front of her. Wow, she had only ever seen houses like this in the movies she watched.
Then again, what was so surprising about that? Javier Romanov wasn’t just wealthy; he was a billionaire. Beatrice was indeed lucky—her husband was handsome, smart, and rich. Meanwhile, she had married a worthless man. Talk about life’s unfairness!
He opened the car door for her. She hadn’t realized that her lips were slightly parted in awe at the sight before her. “Your house is so beautiful. My God, if we played hide and seek in there, I’m not sure we’d even find each other. It’s huge,” she commented.
Javier laughed at how she described his house. Jordan opened the large gate at the front, and they drove inside. The vibe of the house was different—more modern and convenient.
Just by looking at the exterior, she could tell that the budget for the architecture was enormous. “Let’s go inside.”
The garden was vast, and there was even a swimming pool. The house had many large windows that allowed a glimpse of the interior.
As soon as they entered, they were greeted by housemaids in uniform. “Welcome back, Alpha Javier and Luna Beatrice,” they said in unison.
The housemaids' eyes widened in shock, clearly surprised to see her again.
Luna Beatrice… She really was Beatrice now.
“Thank you for welcoming us,” Javier greeted them.
“We prepared a lot of food in the dining room because we knew you were coming, Alpha Javier.”
She couldn’t stop herself from admiring the furniture, appliances, and interior of the house. Wow, everything was so beautiful and elegant. The whole place smelled like an expensive shopping mall.
“Let’s eat first, Beatrice,” Javier said to her, catching her off guard.
But she wasn’t prepared for what came next. Jordan came running towards them, out of breath. “What’s the matter?” Javier asked.
“Your parents. Your parents are here, Javier!”
