. Chapter 4: Shadows Behind the Throne The morning sun bathed the Brody Pack mansion in a warm golden glow, but inside its towering walls, peace was only an illusion. Anna stood on the balcony outside her room, watching wolves train in the large courtyard below. Their movements were swift and disciplined, each strike carrying years of experience. She still found it hard to believe that only a few weeks ago she had been an ordinary country girl. Now she was the Luna of one of the strongest werewolf packs in the region. Life had changed faster than she could understand. Richard quietly stepped onto the balcony behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist. "You've been awake for a while," he whispered. Anna leaned into him and smiled softly. "I couldn't sleep. Everything still feels... unreal." "It will take time." She turned to face him. "Do they really accept me?" Richard hesitated for only a second. "Most of them do." That tiny pause didn't escape her notice. "Most?" she asked. Richard sighed. "Some elders believe a Luna should come from a noble bloodline. They think I made my decision too quickly." Anna lowered her eyes. "So... they don't want me here." Richard gently lifted her chin. "They'll respect you when they see your heart. I chose you because you're my mate, not because of your status." His words comforted her, but a strange uneasiness settled deep inside her chest. Far away, hidden beneath the ancient tunnels beneath the forest, several cloaked figures gathered around a burning fire. "The Alpha grows weaker." "No," another voice corrected. "He grows distracted." A hooded man slammed his fist against the stone table. "The human girl is our greatest opportunity." "If she dies..." Richard will lose control. "If she lives..." She could become stronger than any Luna before her. Silence filled the chamber. Finally, the oldest among them spoke. "We strike during the Blood Moon Ceremony." Every person nodded. The rebellion had begun. --- That afternoon, the palace buzzed with preparations for the annual Blood Moon Ceremony, a sacred celebration where every member of the Brody Pack renewed their loyalty to the Alpha. Anna watched servants decorate the great hall with crimson banners and silver candles. Everything looked beautiful. Yet she couldn't shake the feeling that someone was watching her. As she walked through one of the quiet hallways, footsteps echoed behind her. She turned. Nobody. She continued walking. Again. Footsteps. This time she stopped suddenly. A young maid nearly bumped into her. "I'm so sorry, Luna!" Anna laughed nervously. "It's alright." But the feeling remained. Someone really was watching. --- Meanwhile... Richard sat inside the council chamber with his Beta, Marcus. "The patrols have doubled," Marcus reported. "Any signs?" Marcus nodded grimly. "We found dead wolves near the eastern border." Richard frowned. "Rogue attack?" "No." Marcus placed a silver dagger on the table. "The wounds were made with this." Richard's eyes darkened. "Silver forged by pack blacksmiths..." Marcus nodded slowly. "Which means the enemy is already inside our walls." Silence swallowed the room. Richard stood immediately. "No one leaves the mansion without my permission." --- Later that evening, Anna wandered into the royal library. Hundreds of ancient books lined the shelves from floor to ceiling. One dusty book caught her attention. It seemed older than the others. When she reached for it, the shelf suddenly shifted. A hidden doorway slowly opened. Anna gasped. "What..." Curiosity overcame caution. She stepped inside. The passage led downward into darkness. Only a few torches lit the narrow stone corridor. The air felt cold. Ancient. As though nobody had entered for centuries. At the end of the tunnel stood a circular chamber. Strange symbols covered the walls. In the center rested a glowing crystal. The moment Anna stepped closer... The crystal burst into brilliant silver light. Her body froze. Visions flooded her mind. She saw countless wolves bowing before a woman whose eyes glowed bright gold. She saw Richard covered in blood. She saw the pack burning. And finally... She saw herself. Standing alone beneath a blood-red moon while enormous silver wings unfolded behind her. "No..." Anna staggered backward. The vision disappeared. Her breathing became uneven. "What was that?" A deep voice echoed through the chamber. "It is your destiny." Anna spun around. An elderly woman emerged from the shadows. Her long white hair reached her waist. Her golden eyes shimmered with ancient wisdom. "Who are you?" The woman smiled. "I have been waiting for you, Luna." "You know me?" "I know far more than you can imagine." Anna's heart raced. The old woman approached the crystal. "It has awakened." "What has?" "The Moon Mother's blessing." Anna frowned. "I don't understand." "You will." Before Anna could ask another question... A loud explosion shook the entire mansion. Dust rained from the ceiling. The elderly woman's expression changed instantly. "They're here." Anna's heart skipped a beat. "Who?" "The traitors." --- Outside, chaos erupted. Smoke rose into the evening sky. Guards rushed toward the eastern gate as alarms echoed throughout the estate. Richard transformed into his massive black wolf without hesitation. His terrifying roar shook the entire valley. Enemy wolves poured through the broken gate. Steel clashed. Claws tore through armor. The peaceful ceremony had become a battlefield. Marcus fought three enemies at once. Warriors defended families as panic spread across the grounds. Richard ripped through the attackers like a storm. But something felt wrong. This wasn't the real attack. It was only a distraction. Suddenly his wolf instincts screamed. Anna. His golden eyes widened. Without another thought, Richard turned away from the battlefield and sprinted toward the mansion. Back inside the hidden chamber, Anna heard hurried footsteps approaching. The elderly woman's face grew pale. "You must leave now." "What about you?" "I've guarded this secret for fifty years." She gently placed her hand on Anna's forehead. "When the Blood Moon rises... remember who you truly are." The chamber doors exploded inward. Several masked warriors rushed inside. Their leader slowly removed his hood. Anna's blood ran cold. It was someone she had greeted at breakfast. Someone Richard trusted. Someone who had sworn loyalty to the Brody Pack. He smiled wickedly. "Forgive me, Luna..." "...but the Alpha's reign ends tonight." Anna stared at him in disbelief as the first blade flashed toward her. To be continued.......
