The hospital corridor was too bright. Diana stood outside Fiona's room, arms crossed, face blank. Inside, Fiona lay propped on pillows, pale and trembling. Monitors beeped a gentle rhythm. Nurses moved around her like she was glass. “She hasn't stopped crying," Zach whispered beside her. “She's a good actress," Diana replied. He turned sharply. “What's that supposed to mean?" Diana didn't answer. Her gaze never left Fiona's window. Their parents arrived seconds later, breathless. Mrs. Thomas rushed to Fiona's side. “Sweetheart, we're here." Mr. Thomas patted her hand. “It's going to be okay." Fiona whimpered. “I didn't mean to. I didn't know it would go that far." Diana's nails dug into her palms. “She *admits* it." Zach pulled her aside. “Keep your voice down." “No," she snap
