Episode 4: First Day Out

1026 Words
Ivy woke up early and set to do the chores when the door bell rang and she rushed downstairs. Everyone was asleep which was so odd, Mother always make sure everyone woke up early in the morning to finish off the chores before going back to bed if they so wish , she believed so much in her theories that a house should be clean as early as the first c**k crow cause one never knows what visitors are on their way. This was one hell annoying principle and they always grumble pleading for more hours in bed but Mother will not hear such excuses at all. So they all surrendered to the torture. It was 5:43am and no one was awake yet. Ivy thought about this big change and wondered if the kids won over mother eventually. "Good morning little Miss" the woman at the other side of the door said smilling when Ivy opened the door, Ivy gave out a little smile when she heard Mother's voice from behind as she walked down the stairs. " Welcome Mrs Belinda" "Ivy came back home after you left yesterday" mother said tapping Ivy. " Oh, she looks just like you Madam" Mrs Belinda said sweetly . Of course Ivy looked like Mother's replica. "Ivy, this is Mrs Belinda, she lives few streets away from here and comes daily to help with the house chores except on weekends" Mother explained to Ivy as they walk in. Now everything made sense to Ivy. The children got their freedom to sleep till forever . She felt so happy for them and ran upstairs jumping on her bed and screamed "Sweetest Holiday Ever" while covering herself with the blanket enjoying the moment. "Hey wake up, sleepy head" it was Steph's voice her sweet kid brother tapping her with his soft tiny hands. She must have fallen asleep earlier but now she wasn't willing to wake up. After several attempts of waking her up and shaking her more vigorously, he went to her window and pulled the curtains open letting in heavy sun rays which fell on her face so hard that she growned loudly and sat on her bed. There he was in a black pyjamas looking so innocent and sweet. She brushed and came downstairs, had a breakfast and went back to her room making her bed and keeping the place tidy. She had her bath and dressed in Jeans trouser with Jean jackets and left her hair dangling with a black band keeping it away from face. She was applying little make up when Lisa came dressed in maroon jacksuits since it was snowy outside and pair of gloves which reminded Ivy to carry hers too. She took her wallets and the girls said goodbye and walked down the streets. Lisa took her to a big book store that had lots of books there while the girls roomed around searching for books they liked, there were so many books and so many titles that all seemed attractive and interesting sypnosis that made them pick almost all the books until they realised they ran out of money. They were so excited as they book shopped together. Next they went to the library. It was an old big library but had updated books and they glanced through reading but a few as they discussed more on what genres they liked. One could say they were twins or sisters with the way they blended well and laughed merrily, holding each other's hands as they walked. At 4: 16pm they became hungry and went to an eatery which was Lisa's favourite place, Ivy also liked the place because they had clean and nice services and the waiters were so nice too. They ordered few snacks and cream even though the weather was so cold while other's took cookies and hot coffee, they kept giving the girls wierd looks but they didn't mine as they scoop their ice creams into their mouth laughing and talking about random things. It was a pretty long and sweet day for Ivy and she didn't feel exhausted a bit. Lisa was a sweet girl slightly loquacious. She kept showing Ivy beautiful places. In the air,one could smell Christmas and truly there was no place as magical as New York City. It had beautiful lights on and every streets shone bright, merry people walking together and children playing with beautiful sidewalks. It was heavenly and divine. So many beautiful ballons suspended in the air and fire works with the choir singing sweet Christmas song. It was 18th December and few days to Christmas so the feelings were Merry. As they walked back home after an exhausting yet sweet day, Ivy was so happy and couldn't wait to share it with her friends. When they arrived Lisa's home, Ivy said a goodbye at the door because she was scared to meet with Smith so she hurriedly left to her house. Just when she was about to get the books on the shelf, she realised she had forgotten the books with Lisa. Lisa had offered to hold the book box earlier seeing that Ivy was tired of the load and now going back to get the books seems like a difficult mission. She tried to abort and forget the books till the next day but she was hungry for books like never before and finally she decided to go knock at Lisa's door. She has tried calling Lisa to inform her about her coming but Lisa wasn't picking her calls. She chatted her up dropping tones of messages without reply infact Lisa was offline and this made Ivy restless. If only she had met her family at home, it wouldn't have bothered her but Kate had texted her earlier saying they were all leaving to visit a family friend and had told her where to get the keys and now she was home alone and bored. Her friends Melan and Junette were ofline too and she wondered what she would do to keep her busy if not the books. So she made up her mind to go get the book.
