*Wednesday. 12:03 AM. Tessa’s Apartment. Dark.*
The SUV was gone.
But the video was still on her phone. 18 seconds that could ruin her.
Damian hadn’t let her go.
She sat between his legs on the floor. His back to the couch. Her back to his chest. His arms a cage around her.
“Friday,” he said. Voice low. No emotion. “72 hours.”
Tessa nodded against him. “He wants the Moore Trust.”
“3.2 million naira,” Damian said. “And he wants to break you.”
She turned her head. Looked up at him. “What if he leaks it before Friday?”
“Then I leak him,” Damian said. Cold. “His accounts. His debts. His prison record.”
Tessa flinched. “Damian… that’s—”
“That’s survival,” he cut in. He cupped her face. Thumbs under her eyes. “And I will survive for you. With you.”
She stared at him. “You’re scary when you’re like this.”
“Good,” he said. “Because I’m not scared anymore. I’m done.”
He kissed her forehead. Hard. Like a brand.
“Sleep, mi. I’ll watch.”
She did. Because when he said it, she believed him.
---
*5:45 AM. He Doesn’t Sleep.*
Tessa woke up first.
Damian was awake. Watching the window. The gunmetal sky.
“You didn’t sleep,” she whispered.
“I slept,” he lied. “With you in my arms.”
She sat up. His shirt again. “What’s the plan?”
He looked at her. Really looked. Hair messy. Eyes scared. His.
“We move you,” he said. “Today.”
“What? No. Zara’s chemo—”
“Is at St. Mary’s,” he said. “Private wing. Floor 12. I bought it last night.”
Tessa stared. “You can’t just buy a hospital floor—”
“I can,” he said. “And I did. Because Victor knows this address.”
Fear crawled up her spine. “He’s watching?”
“He’s been watching since Monday,” Damian said. “The SUV. The cameras. The photo.”
Tessa’s blood went cold.
Damian saw it. He reached out. Took her hand. Squeezed.
“Hey. Look at me.”
She did.
“You’re safe now,” he said. “Because you’re with me. And I don’t lose what’s mine.”
---
*7:00 AM. Packing. Fast.*
Maya arrived with guards. Two black vans.
Tessa packed one bag. Zara’s meds. Clothes. Sketchbook.
Zara was confused. “Mama, are we running?”
Tessa knelt. “No, baby. We’re going home.”
Damian heard it. His jaw tightened.
He crouched too. “Zara. Want to see a big bed? With a window?”
Zara nodded.
“Then let’s go,” he said. He picked her up. Like it was easy.
Tessa’s heart broke. And healed. All at once.
---
*8:30 AM. The Penthouse. Safe House.*
Floor 42. Keycard only. Guards at the elevator.
Damian led them to the east wing.
“This is yours,” he said. Opened a door.
Guest suite. Big bed. Garden view. Connected room for Zara.
Toys on the floor. New sketchbook on the bed. Colored pencils.
Tessa stopped. “You… did this last night?”
“While you slept,” he said. “Maya ordered everything at 2 AM.”
Zara ran to the toys. “Mr. Damian!”
He smiled at her. Real. “You like?”
“Yes!”
He looked at Tessa over Zara’s head. “Safe?”
Tessa nodded. Couldn’t speak.
---
*10:00 AM. War Room. Maya + Damian + Tessa.*
Maya pulled up files. “Victor’s company is 800M naira in debt. The Moore Trust is his last card.”
Damian: “Then we take the card.”
Tessa: “How?”
Damian slid paper over. “We give him a fake. Forged. It holds in court for 48 hours. Long enough.”
Tessa pushed it. “I won’t commit fraud.”
“No,” Damian said. He took her hand. “You won’t. I will. On my company letterhead. My risk.”
Tessa stared at him. “You’d go to jail for me?”
“I’d go to hell for you,” he said. Blunt. “But we won’t. Because we win.”
Maya nodded. “It’s the only play.”
Tessa looked at their hands. His was steady. Hers shook.
“Okay,” she whispered. “But we do it clean. After.”
“After,” he promised.
---
*12:30 PM. Lunch. Just Them.*
Maya left. Guards outside.
Sandwiches. Coffee. Silence.
“You’re shaking,” Damian said.
Tessa looked at her hands. He was right.
He reached across the island. Held them. Both.
“Tessa. Talk to me.”
“I’m scared,” she said. “Of Friday. Of him. Of losing Zara.”
Damian’s thumb rubbed her knuckles. “You won’t.”
“How do you know?”
“Because I’m not letting you.” He leaned in. Forehead to hers. “Say it.”
“Say what?”
“Say I’m not alone.”
Tessa’s eyes filled. “You’re not alone, Damian.”
He closed his eyes. Like relief.
“Good.” He kissed her nose. “Because neither are you.”
---
*1:45 PM. The Call. Victor.*
Tessa’s phone buzzed. Unknown.
She answered before Damian could stop her.
Victor. “Tessa. You’re prettier when you’re scared.”
She froze.
“Friday,” he said. “Sign the trust. Or I upload the video. And I call CPS. ‘Unstable mother. Lives with billionaire. Neglect’.”
“Don’t—”
“Don’t tell me what not to do,” he laughed. “You’re broke. I’m desperate. Sign.”
Click.
Tessa dropped the phone.
Damian caught her. Held her up.
“What did he say?”
She told him. Word for word.
Damian’s eyes went dead. “He touched my phone. My woman. My child.”
“Damian—”
“He’s finished,” he said. He picked up her phone. Blocked it. Then he looked at Maya. “Trace it. Now.”
---
*3:00 PM. Zara’s Room. Normal.*
Zara was drawing. Safe.
Tessa sat with her. Coloring.
Damian watched from the door. For 10 minutes. Without moving.
Zara looked up. “Mr. Damian, are you sad?”
He crouched. “Why?”
“Because you look like Mama when she’s scared.”
Damian’s throat moved. He looked at Tessa.
Tessa nodded. Go to her.
He sat on the floor. “I’m not sad, Zara. I’m… protective.”
Zara handed him a crayon. “Then color with us.”
He did.
Tessa watched the billionaire color inside the lines for her daughter.
And fell harder.
---
*5:00 PM. Balcony. 48 Hours Left.*
Rain. Warm.
They sat under one blanket. Not touching.
“Thursday,” Tessa said. “We send the fake.”
“Yes.”
“Friday,” she said. “Court.”
“Yes.”
She turned to him. “Damian. If this goes bad… if my name is ruined… will you still want me?”
He didn’t hesitate. “Yes.”
“Even if—”
“Even if the whole world sees,” he said. “You’re mine. Public. Private. Ruined or not.”
Tessa’s breath caught. “Say it again.”
“You’re mine, Tessa Moore. And I’m not giving you back.”
She cried then. Quiet.
He pulled her into his lap. Held her.
“Shh. No tears. Not for him.”
He kissed her hair. Her temple. Her cheek.
“I’ve got you,” he whispered. “Always.”
---
*7:30 PM. Dinner. Floor.*
They ate on the floor again. Like before.
Zara asleep. Nurse watching.
Tessa’s foot found his. He didn’t move.
“Damian?”
“Hm?”
“Thank you. For today. For… being here.”
He reached across. Took her hand. Kissed her palm.
“Thank you for letting me.”
He didn’t let go.
---
*9:00 PM. Bedroom. Almost.*
She couldn’t sleep.
He was in the doorway. Sweatpants. Bare chest.
“Can’t sleep?”
“No.”
He came in. Sat on her bed. Not in it.
“Talk to me.”
So she did. About her mom. About being scared. About wanting peace.
He listened. No phone. No laptop.
When she stopped, he said, “Can I hold you?”
She nodded.
He lay beside her. On top of the blanket. Arm around her.
He didn’t kiss her. He just held her.
“Tessa,” he whispered.
“Hm?”
“Whatever happens Friday… you’re mine. Okay?”
“Okay,” she said. And meant it.
He kissed her hair. Stayed.
---
*11:59 PM. The Email. The Letter.*
Subject: `MOORE TRUST - FINAL NOTICE`
Attachment: `MOORE_TRUST_DEED.pdf`
Text: `Sign. Scan. Send by Friday 12PM. Or I upload.`
Tessa opened it.
Her name. Zara’s name. Signature line. 3.2M.
Her hand shook.
Damian read over her shoulder.
“Don’t sign,” he said. Hard.
“But if he—”
“No.” He turned her to face him. “We send the fake Thursday. We stall. We fight Friday.”
Tessa looked at him. “What if we lose?”
“Then we lose together,” he said. “And I marry you Monday. And I give you 10M. And I bury him.”
She stared. “You’d do that?”
“I’d do anything,” he said. “For you.”
He pulled her into his arms. Tight.
“Friday,” he said into her hair. “We end him.”
---
*Thursday. 9:00 AM. The Fake.*
They sent it.
Victor replied in 3 minutes: `Received. Friday 12PM. Court. Don’t be late.`
Damian smiled. Cold. “He bought it.”
Tessa’s stomach dropped. “Now we wait?”
“Now we prepare,” he said. He took her hand. “Come.”
---
*Thursday. 8:00 PM. The Night Before.*
He didn’t leave.
Couch. Floor. Her bed.
He just stayed.
At 10 PM, she said, “Damian?”
“Hm?”
“Kiss me. Like Friday might be the last time.”
He went still. Then he moved.
He cupped her face. Both hands.
“Not the last time,” he said. “The first of the rest of our lives.”
He kissed her.
Slow. Deep. Unhurried. Like he had forever.
His hands in her hair. Her hands on his chest.
He broke away. Breathing hard. “If we keep going…”
“I know,” she whispered.
“Then we stop,” he said. He pulled her close. “Because I want our first night to be after we win.”
---
*Friday. 11:30 AM. Court Steps.*
Victor waited. Paper in hand. Smug.
Tessa walked beside Damian. Hand in his.
“Ready?” he asked.
“No,” she said.
“Good,” he said. “Because I’m ready for both of us.”
They walked in.
Victor: “Tessa. Sign.”
Damian stepped forward.
“Before we do,” he said. “Detective?”
Two officers walked in. With Maya.
Maya: “Victor Hale. Arrested for blackmail. Extortion. Illegal surveillance.”
Victor’s face fell. “You can’t—”
“We can,” Damian said. “And we did.”
The video was deleted. The SUV seized. Victor cuffed.
Tessa stared.
Damian turned to her. “Told you.”
He pulled her into his arms. Right there. In front of everyone.
“I love you,” he said. Loud.
“I love you too,” she cried into his chest.
He kissed her hair. “It’s over, mi. He’s gone".
