Maddy and Julia did an amazing job of avoiding one another and existing in The Lighthouse Inn with the perfect dance of silence and movement for three days. Come Tuesday morning, however, and Maddy was tired of standing at her door, listening for Julia’s footsteps to first go up the stairs to the main level of the inn, and then come back down once she’d finished breakfast. She then gave Maddy free rein of the kitchen without intruding on her space. Maddy then usually donned a big, wide-brimmed hat and spent hours on the beach with only her cellphone for company. She wasn’t even sure why she needed that. She had no one left to text or call, and she’d played hours of mind-numbing games and scrolled trough asinine social media posts until she wanted to scream, scatter her phone in the ocean
