Julia had to get that picture out of the album. She wished Maddy would move her hand, and she almost batted it away and ripped at the plastic covering. These old photo albums didn’t preserve pictures anyway. The colors were already warped and faded, some of the oranges and browns and yellows creating a tie-dye effect that obscured important details. Like who that woman was with her father in 1974. Julia had been born in 1974, probably only a few months after this picture. It definitely looked like summer in the photograph, and Julia would celebrate her forty-seventh birthday in just a few weeks, near the end of September. So who was that woman?
