Nadia’s POV
The silence in the living room of the Bennetts’ mansion is deafening. Not even an echo is heard in the mansion. You can easily pick up the sound of a pin if dropped. My aunt and her family are seated across from me and Lorenzo. Looking at them now, the hatred that has bloomed over the years in my heart seems to increase.
Nobody moves. Nobody says a word.
I take my gaze to Lorenzo and his eyes aren’t fixed on me this time. Slowly I take my eyes to where his gaze is fixed on and my heart skips several beats — Alex. He is staring intently and dangerously at Alex. I finally recall our conversation before he left for the four day trip.
“So… just like I said earlier, I am here because of some very important matters.” Lorenzo’s deep baritone voice suddenly cut through the silence like a blade.
“What matters, Sir? Please tell me, I’ll do everything I can to help you out,” my uncle says, his hands trembling.
Lorenzo laughs, a dark, gritty sound that could send a grown man to his knees. “You all were aware of it and it went on for four years, yet, you did nothing,” his expression takes a turn from a mocking grin to a devilish smirk. “So how exactly do you intend to help me fix this s**t, Lucas?”
I blink so hard my eyes hurt. He’s here because of the things I told him? No wonder he was looking at Alex. If I knew he would take it personal, I wouldn’t have said anything. What’s he going to do?
God please…
“I… I… I don’t understand what you mean, Mr Romano,” my uncle stutters.
Lorenzo leans back in his seat, and starts drumming rhythms on the arm chair. His gaze still fixed on Alex. I clamp my hands together, my fingers digging into each other. I don’t know what will happen yet, but I can sense that Lorenzo is going to do something horrible.
Nothing good happens whenever he drums his fingers like that.
“Nadia has been sexually molested by your son for four years. Did you know about this?” he directs the question to my aunt, his predatory gaze fixed on her.
She blinks and casts a side glance at me, “no… no, Mr Romano. We had no idea. She kept it from us!”
I recall reporting to her when it started, but she slapped me, gripped my hair and warned me never to tell anyone about it. My grip tightens as hatred and rage blooms in my chest.
“I told you,” I say my voice barely a whisper. “I recall telling you when it all started, but you hit me and warned me never to tell anyone.”
Her face twists in sheer disbelief. “That’s a brutal lie, Nadia! Don’t lie against this family, we raised you for five years!…
“Arghhhh!”
A shrieking cry tears from her throat the moment she finishes her words. One of Lorenzo’s men slaps her hard her lip splits as crimson liquid drops from her nose to the tile floor.
“You dare raise your voice at my wife?” Do you have a death wish?” Lorenzo’s voice vibrates through the room.
“Why did you do it?” he turns to Alex and asks, his gaze dark and dangerous.
Alex is shaking terribly, he opens his mouth to speak, “it’s all a lie, Mr Romano. She… she threw herself at me several times, she—“
“She f*****g has a phobia!” Lorenzo spits in a harsh whisper, cutting Alex off. His eyes bleeding pure rage. “Explain how someone who has a strong fear toward s****l activities actually throws herself at you?”
“I… she… it’s all a lie, please believe me, Mr Romano,” Alex shrieks. My trembling fingers suddenly balls into fists. That bastard dare deny everything he did to me?
“Mr Romano, there must be some misunderstanding somewhere,” my uncle says, briefly casting me a sharp glance.
“Oh? Fine.” Lorenzo says and stands up from the seat, takes off his coat and signals to one of the guards who holds a briefcase to come over.
“Tienilo giù!”
He orders as two hefty guards rush toward Alex and drags him off the seat, pulling him to the table and pinning him down.
“I’ll take the hand with which you touched what is mine,” Lorenzo growls.
My heart stops beating as I stare in horror. Lorenzo opens the briefcase and brings out a sharp butcher knife. A part of me wants to stop him, but another part doesn’t.
“Mr Romano, please! We can talk this out. Nadia! Do something!” my aunt shrieks. I looked at Elena and her eyes were just fixed on Lorenzo, not even an ounce of sympathy for her brother.
Lorenzo grabs Alex’s right hand, places it on the table and violently brings the knife down amidst cries and pleas from his parents. I stare in utter terror as Alex’s hand drops from his body to the floor. Crimson liquid gushes out of the severed hand and pools onto the floor.
My breath catches in my throat as Alex’s screams, and wails echoes throughout the entire mansion. I lift my head and stare at Lorenzo; his shirt, and hands are stained with blood. A satisfied, wide grin plays on his face as he stares down at Alex.
I am married to a monster.
