Emily Presentation

--- Episode Seven – Emily’s Presentation Emily woke before dawn on Thursday, the pale glow of morning still stretching its way across the curtains of her small dorm room. Her alarm hadn’t yet rung, but her body was restless, stirred awake by the mixture of nerves and anticipation. Today was the day—the seminar she and her group had been preparing for, the presentation that would not only mark one of the last milestones of her medical school journey but also test her in ways she hadn’t expected. She sat up, brushing her dark hair out of her face, and let her eyes wander to the stack of neatly arranged notes on her desk. Highlighters, sticky notes, and diagrams cluttered the surface, but to Emily, it was a comforting kind of chaos. Every mark, every scribble was a reminder of the late nights she and her classmates had poured into this work. Her phone buzzed softly. A message lit up the screen: Raye: “Morning, Em! Ready to ace this? Group meets in the hall at 9.” Emily smiled. Raye had been one of her closest allies during this semester—bright, diligent, and unafraid to speak her mind. The group wouldn’t be the same without her. “Almost ready,” Emily murmured to herself as she typed back a quick reply. “See you soon. We’ll do great.” She rose, dressed carefully in the simple but professional outfit she had picked out days ago, and took one last look in the mirror. Her reflection revealed someone caught between two worlds: the student who had endured years of grueling study, and the almost-doctor, standing just weeks away from stepping into the real practice of medicine. By the time Emily arrived at the seminar hall, the building hummed with quiet excitement. Students clustered in groups, some rehearsing lines under their breath, others huddling over laptops making last-minute changes. The air smelled faintly of coffee and nerves. “Emily! Over here.” Her group waved her over—Raye , Daniel, and Muhammad already set up near the back. Their poster board stood tall, filled with careful charts and images, while Daniel fussed with the laptop connected to the projector. “You’re on the intro, right?” Muhammad asked, adjusting his glasses. He always had a tendency to double-check everything, and Emily found comfort in his reliability. “Yes,” Emily nodded. “Intro and closing remarks. Don’t worry, I’ve got it.” Raye grinned. “We’ve got this, guys. It’s just Dr. Mason. He’s tough, sure, but he appreciates students who put in effort. And we did.” They all knew the reputation Dr. Mason carried: respected, brilliant, but also unflinching when it came to academic standards. He wasn’t the type to hand out praise easily. Yet there was something inspiring about presenting under his watch—like being weighed by a scale that mattered. The seminar began promptly. Rows of students quieted as Dr. Mason himself entered, his presence commanding the room. Tall, with sharp eyes that seemed to pierce through nervous facades, he greeted the room with a curt nod before taking his seat at the front. “Let’s begin,” he said simply, and the first group made their way up. As Emily’s group waited for their turn, her heart thudded in her chest. She forced herself to breathe evenly, recalling the hours of preparation, the countless times she had rehearsed her lines. This wasn’t just about grades—it was about proving to herself that she belonged here. When their group was called, Emily felt her legs move almost on their own. The four of them took their places, Raye giving her a subtle thumbs-up as Emily stepped forward. “Good morning, everyone,” Emily began, her voice steadier than she expected. “Today, our group will be presenting on…” The words flowed, practiced yet sincere. As she spoke, she caught glimpses of her classmates’ nods, Raye’s confident stance, Muhammad’s calm explanations, Daniel’s technical mastery. Each of them contributed seamlessly, the product of weeks of teamwork. And when it came time to close, Emily stepped forward once more, her voice carrying across the hall with quiet conviction. “In medicine, we’re taught to see not just the science, but the people behind it. Our project reminded us that every chart, every study, ultimately connects to lives we hope to impact one day. Thank you.” Silence followed—a pause heavy with anticipation. Then, a smattering of applause, growing into something fuller. Dr. Mason leaned back in his chair, studying them with that inscrutable expression of his. “Well done,” he said at last. Just two words, but from him, it was no small praise. Relief washed over Emily. The group exchanged glances, a silent celebration passing between them. They had done it. Emily oh my God we did it this was Daniel said , oh my God you needed to have seen his face well done,”he said that meant a lot to them. The four of them were so excited the relief, finally the presentation was done and dusted, they kept on celebrating, shouting it was all joy , cheering on each other .
