Chapter Twelve “DAMN!” Lucas knelt over the fallen log, rocking on his haunches, cradling his injured thumb. He turned his head away, refusing to look at the thing. “Damn, damn, damn it all to....” His voice choked into a savage knot of pain. He did not want to look at the thumb, afraid he had broken it or flattened it or cut it off. “Lucas?” Tamsen stood there, framed in the mouth of the cabin doorway, blinking like an owl stepping from the darkness into the light.
