The Warning

The entire auditorium had gone silent. Every screen displayed the same message. CONGRATULATIONS, SHADOWFLAME. Ananya stared at the screen. Her fingers slowly moved away from the keyboard. "What is this?" No one answered. Another line appeared. WE KNOW WHO YOU ARE. The crowd began murmuring. "ShadowFlame?" "Who is ShadowFlame?" "Is that someone's username?" Ananya's face turned pale. She looked at the players around her. "Why is that name on the screen?" Rohit looked confused. "I don't know." Sneha turned toward the technical team. "Is this part of the game?" The organizers rushed toward the control panel. But before anyone could stop it, another message appeared. AND SOON... EVERYONE WILL KNOW TOO. The screen went black. For a few seconds, no one moved. Then the entire auditorium erupted into noise. Arjun immediately stood up. "Ananya." She turned toward him. "What?" "Come with me." "Why?" "Now." There was something in his voice that made her stop asking questions. Arjun quickly led her away from the gaming arena. Rohit and Sneha followed them. Behind them, the audience continued discussing the mysterious message. They entered a private room near the backstage area. The door closed. Ananya immediately turned toward Arjun. "What just happened?" "We don't know yet." "That message said ShadowFlame." Rohit frowned. "Maybe it's some kind of promotion?" Ananya shook her head. "No." Everyone looked at her. She stared at the floor. "ShadowFlame isn't part of this tournament." Arjun remained silent. Ananya continued. "That name belongs to an online gaming account." Rohit's eyes widened. "Wait. You know ShadowFlame?" Ananya immediately froze. For a second, the room became silent. Arjun noticed the change in her expression. Ananya quickly looked away. "I've heard of her." Rohit stared at her. "Everyone has heard of ShadowFlame. She's one of the most famous players online." "Exactly." Ananya tried to sound casual. "That's why someone could be using the name to create attention." Arjun studied her carefully. She was hiding something. But he already knew what it was. A member of the tournament staff entered the room. "We have a problem." Arjun turned toward him. "What happened?" "The screens were hacked." "Can you trace the source?" "We're trying." "How long?" The staff member hesitated. "We don't know." Arjun's expression hardened. "Then find out." The man nodded and left. Ananya looked at Arjun. "Why are you taking this so seriously?" He looked at her. "Because someone hacked into a live tournament." "Maybe it's just a prank." "Maybe." "But you don't think so." Arjun didn't answer immediately. He couldn't tell her the truth. He couldn't tell her that the person behind the message had already contacted him. He couldn't tell her that the hacker knew she was ShadowFlame. And he definitely couldn't tell her that he was StormKnight. Instead, he said: "Whoever did this wanted everyone to see that message." Ananya's expression became serious. "Why?" "To create fear." She looked at the black screen through the glass door. "Then what do we do?" Arjun looked at her. "Be careful." Ananya frowned. "Careful of what?" "Of anyone asking too many questions about your gaming identity." For a brief moment, her eyes met his. She felt something strange. The same concern she had heard from StormKnight. The same protective tone. She quickly dismissed the thought. "Why would anyone care about my gaming identity?" Arjun's expression changed slightly. "Everyone has secrets." Ananya stared at him. "Do you?" For a moment, Arjun said nothing. Then he smiled. "Of course." "What kind?" "That would be a secret." Ananya rolled her eyes. "You're impossible." But the question remained in her mind. What was Arjun hiding? Meanwhile, in another part of the university... Kabir stood in front of the black screen. The message had disappeared. But he had seen it. He turned toward the tournament staff. "Who did that?" "No idea." Kabir frowned. "Can you trace it?" "We're trying." Kabir looked toward Team Seven's private room. His eyes narrowed. The hacker had interrupted the final at the exact moment Team Seven won. And the message had specifically mentioned ShadowFlame. That couldn't be a coincidence. Kabir had spent days studying Ananya's gameplay. There was something unusual about her. Her movements. Her instincts. Her reactions. They reminded him of a player he had encountered online. A player who had defeated him several times. A player who had never revealed her identity. ShadowFlame. Kabir had always wondered who was behind that account. Now someone had publicly connected that name to Ananya's university. Kabir slowly smiled. "Interesting." Ananya returned to the gaming arena. The crowd was still discussing the incident. Some students were searching for ShadowFlame online. Others were trying to figure out who the mysterious player was. Ananya sat down quietly. Her phone vibrated. She looked at the screen. STORMKNIGHT Are you okay? Ananya stared at the message. She quickly typed. ShadowFlame: Did you see what happened? StormKnight: Yes. ShadowFlame: Someone used my name. Arjun looked at her from across the room. She was typing on her phone. StormKnight: Are you sure they were talking about you? Ananya hesitated. ShadowFlame: No. Arjun's heart tightened. StormKnight: Then don't assume the worst. ShadowFlame: But what if they know? Arjun paused. This was the question he had been afraid of. StormKnight: Know what? Ananya stared at the screen. She almost typed the truth. That I am ShadowFlame. But she stopped. Instead, she wrote: ShadowFlame: Nothing. Arjun closed his eyes for a moment. Even now... She still didn't know that he already knew. StormKnight: Whatever happens, don't panic. Ananya looked at the message. ShadowFlame: Why? StormKnight: Because you don't have to face it alone. She stared at the words. A strange warmth spread through her chest. ShadowFlame: You say things like that too easily. StormKnight: Maybe I mean them. Ananya didn't reply immediately. Then she typed: ShadowFlame: Thank you. Arjun looked toward her. She was sitting only a few meters away. But she had no idea who was talking to her. Suddenly, another notification appeared. UNKNOWN PLAYER IS ONLINE Arjun's expression changed. The same account. The same mysterious player. A message appeared. UNKNOWN: She still doesn't know. Arjun's fingers tightened around the mouse. StormKnight: What do you want? UNKNOWN: I want you to tell her. StormKnight: Why? UNKNOWN: Because the truth belongs to her. Arjun stared at the screen. Another message appeared. UNKNOWN: And if you don't tell her... A pause. Then: UNKNOWN: I will. Arjun immediately tried to trace the account. But the player vanished. USER OFFLINE Arjun looked toward Ananya. She was still staring at her phone. She had no idea. Not yet. But the mysterious player had given him a choice. Tell Ananya the truth himself... Or wait for the truth to be exposed by someone else. Suddenly, Ananya's phone vibrated again. She looked down. A new message had arrived. But this time... It wasn't from StormKnight. UNKNOWN NUMBER I KNOW WHO YOU ARE. Ananya's expression froze. A second message appeared. SHADOWFLAME. She stopped breathing. Her eyes slowly lifted. Across the room... Arjun was already looking at her.Ananya stared at the message on her phone. I KNOW WHO YOU ARE. A second message appeared. SHADOWFLAME. Her fingers went cold. For a moment, she couldn't move. The noise of the auditorium disappeared. The voices around her became distant. All she could see was the message on her screen. Someone knew. Someone had discovered her secret. She immediately locked her phone. "Ananya?" Arjun's voice brought her back. She looked up. "Yes?" "You okay?" She forced a smile. "Yes." Arjun stared at her. He knew that expression. She was lying. But he couldn't ask her directly. Not here. Not in front of everyone. "Come with me." Ananya immediately shook her head. "No." "Why?" "I have to stay here." "Ananya." "I'm fine." The words came out too quickly. Arjun's eyes narrowed. She was hiding something. And he already knew what it was. Ananya stood up and walked away from the crowd. She entered an empty corridor and checked her phone again. The message was still there. I KNOW WHO YOU ARE. She typed: Who are you? The reply came almost instantly. Someone who has been watching you for a long time. Ananya's heart began beating faster. What do you want? A few seconds passed. Then: I want you to stop pretending. Ananya stared at the screen. I don't know what you're talking about. You do. Another message arrived. You are ShadowFlame. Ananya's breath caught. She looked around the empty corridor. No one was there. She quickly typed: Prove it. The reply came immediately. Your laptop. Ananya froze. The internet café. Her eyes widened. The way you hold your mouse. Her hands began to tremble. The way you move your fingers before launching an attack. Ananya stared at the phone. This person had seen her play. But that wasn't enough. Many people had seen her play. Then another message appeared. You think no one noticed you that day? Ananya's heart stopped. The day her laptop had stopped working. The day she had gone to the internet café. Someone had been watching her. She quickly looked toward the end of the corridor. A shadow moved. Ananya turned. But there was no one there. Her phone vibrated again. UNKNOWN: Don't look for me. Ananya's eyes widened. UNKNOWN: You won't find me. She typed: Then why are you doing this? The reply came. Because you are hiding behind a name that doesn't belong to you anymore. Ananya frowned. What does that mean? There was a long pause. Then: You will find out soon. The conversation ended. UNKNOWN NUMBER HAS BLOCKED YOU Ananya stared at the screen. Her mind was racing. Who was this person? How did they know about the internet café? How did they know about her gaming habits? And most importantly... What did they mean by: A name that doesn't belong to you anymore? "Ananya." She turned around. Arjun stood at the end of the corridor. She quickly locked her phone. "How long have you been standing there?" "Not long." "What do you want?" "I wanted to ask you the same thing." Ananya frowned. "What?" "You walked away from everyone." "I'm tired." "You're lying." Her expression changed. Arjun immediately realized what he had said. Ananya stared at him. "Excuse me?" "I mean..." He paused. "You're not acting like someone who's simply tired." Ananya looked away. For a moment, she wanted to tell him everything. She wanted to show him the messages. But she couldn't. She didn't know him well enough. And she couldn't risk her secret. "Something happened," Arjun said quietly. Ananya looked at him. "What makes you think that?" "Because I know what you look like when you're worried." She stared at him. "You barely know me." Arjun remained silent. He almost smiled. I know more than you think. But instead, he said: "Maybe I'm observant." Ananya looked down at her phone. Then back at him. "Do you believe people can have completely different lives?" Arjun's expression became serious. "Yes." "Even if they hide one of those lives from everyone?" "Especially then." Ananya studied his face. "Why?" "Because sometimes people hide things to protect themselves." She stared at him. His words felt strangely personal. "Would you forgive someone if they hid something important from you?" Arjun's heart tightened. He knew exactly what she was asking. But she didn't know that. "I think it depends on why they hid it." Ananya remained silent. Then she looked away. "Maybe." Suddenly, the university announcement system came alive. ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS Everyone in the corridor looked up. THE ESPORTS CHAMPIONSHIP HAS BEEN TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED DUE TO A SECURITY BREACH. Ananya's eyes widened. Arjun immediately looked at her. The announcement continued. ALL PARTICIPATING PLAYERS ARE REQUIRED TO REMAIN AVAILABLE FOR QUESTIONING. The corridor erupted into conversation. Students began discussing the incident. Ananya looked at Arjun. "What does that mean?" "Someone accessed the tournament system." "Was it the person who sent that message?" Arjun paused. "Maybe." Ananya looked at him carefully. "You seem to know a lot about this." Arjun's expression remained calm. "I've been involved with the tournament organization." "But you look more worried than the organizers." He smiled faintly. "Maybe I take security seriously." Ananya didn't look convinced. Meanwhile, inside the tournament control room... The technical team had discovered something. One of the staff members stared at the screen. "Wait." The others turned toward him. "What?" "We found the source." Everyone gathered around the monitor. A string of data appeared. The technician quickly traced it. Then his expression changed. "What happened?" another staff member asked. He slowly turned toward them. "The signal came from inside the university." The room went silent. "Inside?" "Yes." "Can you identify the device?" The technician looked at the screen. "Not yet." Then another line appeared. DEVICE LOCATION: IN TECH UNIVERSITY The technician frowned. "Someone here did this." Back in the corridor, Ananya received another message. She looked at her phone. UNKNOWN: You have one day. Her heart began beating faster. She typed: One day for what? The reply came. To tell him. Ananya stared at the screen. Tell who? The answer appeared. The person who already knows. Ananya slowly looked up. Arjun was standing a few feet away. Her eyes met his. For a moment, neither of them moved. A terrifying thought entered her mind. Does Arjun know? She quickly rejected it. No. How could he? She had never told him. She had never played in front of him. She had always been careful. But then she remembered something. The internet café. The way someone had watched her hands. And Arjun had been there that day. Ananya's eyes widened slightly. Could it be? No. It was impossible. She looked at Arjun again. He was watching her. And for the first time... Ananya wondered whether there was something about him she didn't know. Arjun's phone vibrated. He looked down. Another message from the unknown player. UNKNOWN: She is beginning to suspect you. Arjun's eyes hardened. StormKnight: Stay away from her. UNKNOWN: Then tell her. StormKnight: This has nothing to do with you. UNKNOWN: It has everything to do with me. Arjun paused. StormKnight: Who are you? The reply appeared. UNKNOWN: Ask Kabir. Arjun froze. He looked across the hall. Kabir was standing near the entrance of the auditorium. He was watching Ananya. Arjun's eyes narrowed. Kabir noticed him. For a few seconds, the two men stared at each other. Then Kabir slowly smiled. Arjun immediately looked back at his phone. The message had disappeared. Ananya walked toward Kabir. "Why are you here?" Kabir looked at her. "Watching the aftermath of an interesting match." "You were Team Nine's strategist." "Yes." "You studied our team." "Especially you." Ananya frowned. "Why me?" Kabir smiled. "Because you're the most unpredictable player on your team." She stared at him. "Is that a compliment?" "Maybe." Kabir stepped closer. "Or maybe it's a warning." Ananya's expression hardened. "What do you mean?" Kabir looked past her. His eyes briefly moved toward Arjun. Then back to her. "Sometimes, the person you trust most is the person who knows the most about you." Ananya froze. Kabir walked away. Arjun watched him leave. Something was wrong. The unknown player had told him to ask Kabir. And now Kabir had just said something that sounded almost like a warning. That night, Ananya sat alone in her hostel room. Her laptop was still broken. Her phone was beside her. She opened the game. STORMKNIGHT IS ONLINE A message appeared. StormKnight: Shadow? Ananya stared at the screen. She wanted to tell him. She wanted to ask him if he knew. But fear stopped her. ShadowFlame: I'm here. StormKnight: You were quiet today. ShadowFlame: Something happened. Arjun's expression became serious. StormKnight: What happened? Ananya hesitated. Then typed: ShadowFlame: Someone knows who I am. Arjun froze. His heart began beating faster. StormKnight: What? ShadowFlame: Someone sent me messages. StormKnight: What did they say? ShadowFlame: They said they know that I am ShadowFlame. Arjun stared at the screen. He already knew. But hearing the fear in her words made everything different. StormKnight: Did they threaten you? ShadowFlame: Not exactly. StormKnight: Shadow, listen to me. Ananya stared at the message. StormKnight: Don't trust anyone who tries to scare you. ShadowFlame: What if they really know? Arjun looked toward the screen. He had promised himself he would protect her. But now the secret was becoming dangerous. StormKnight: Then let them try. Ananya's eyes filled with uncertainty. ShadowFlame: You sound very confident. StormKnight: Because you don't have to face this alone. She stared at the words. Again. The same words Arjun had spoken to her earlier. Her fingers stopped moving. Slowly, she looked at the message. Then at the memory of Arjun standing in the corridor. You don't have to face it alone. Ananya's eyes widened. She looked at the screen again. ShadowFlame: Storm... StormKnight: Yes? Ananya typed: ShadowFlame: Have we ever met before? Arjun froze. For several seconds, he didn't reply. Ananya waited. Then the message appeared. StormKnight: Maybe. Ananya's heart skipped. ShadowFlame: What does that mean? Arjun stared at the screen. He knew the moment he had been fearing was approaching. Then he typed: StormKnight: Sometimes, people meet long before they realize how important they are to each other. Ananya stared at the message. She didn't know why... But she suddenly thought of Arjun. At that exact moment, Arjun was sitting alone in his office. And for the first time... He realized that the secret he had wanted to protect... Was slowly becoming impossible to hide.
