"Don't say stupid things like that!" Harry was instantly angry with Jane. His words sounded harsh. "Steve wouldn't do that," he continued. Harry swallowed, suddenly unsure of his own words. Steve had told himself that he would torture and kill Jane. That's exactly what he was going to do.
And for a moment, Harry believed what Jane was saying. The faster he drove down the road, the more he moistened his dry lips. His focus was now completely split, and his mind was spinning.
"You don't know anything about him!" blasted Jane loudly from behind.
Harry's grip on the steering wheel tightened, as did his strong jaw. How accurate had Jane's words been? Perhaps she was right.
Harry didn't know anything about Steve as a whole. Sure, he had worked for him for over five years. But, the two of them weren't close friends, especially with their age difference. Harry didn't know his boss inside and out.
In fact, Jane's words were very accurate. Harry wanted to deny it, but he simply couldn't. Jane was right. Harry didn't know Steve very well.
"Why are you doing nothing? Feeling that my words are so right?" Jane scoffed. "I was right, he's full of secrets, you don't know who he is."
"I don't care about that, it's useless for you to try to persuade me to let you out now, I won't do that."
Jane didn't seem to care, she continued to probe, looking for loopholes. "I was right, you really don't know him. I'll tell you, he's more ruthless than you've ever known him to be. Well, I don't know how long you've worked for him. But I'm not lying to you, that's the truth."
Harry tried not to listen too much to Jane's words, but he couldn't, especially since she kept saying.
"He killed my mother, that's the truth. And now, he's going to kill me too, unless you don't give me to him. And I wish, you'd use your heart a little. I know that if you're a good man, you can do that."
"You don't know anything about me either, I'm not a good man."
Jane shrugged her shoulders. "That's just my assumption, you're not a cruel man, I can see that. You merely want to fulfill that old fool's orders."
"Why did Steve kill your mother?"
"You're curious too."
"You brought this up first, I was just asking." Harry defended himself.
"It's true."
"I won't believe you as easily as you think, you could be lying to me."
"What good would it do me to lie?"
"Easy, to get you out of here. You're trying to make me feel sorry for you, that's what you're after. But I won't be played that easily. You've got the wrong opponent, miss." Harry published a lopsided smile.
For a moment, Jane was silent, but a moment later, she spoke again. "He's my stepfather."
"What?" Harry was surprised, this information was beyond his expectations. Harry looked back slightly. "I didn't hear it wrong, did I?"
"I'm guessing your ears are still functioning properly. I could explain it to you, but I don't have time. You'll take me to him, and he'll immediately shoot me in the head. Then I'm dead, I don't have time!"
"You're lying."
"I told you, I will explain everything if I have more time, and you also want to hear about this."
Harry let out a long breath. Jane's words swirled in his mind. That's right, he didn't know anything about Steve. If Jane wasn't lying, what should Harry do? He felt indecisive at the moment.
Steve had killed Jane's mother. That meant Steve had killed his wife. But, why would he do that?
Harry realized that he had believed Jane's words, out of his control, without realizing it. After all, how could Jane possibly tell a lie about her mother's death? No, Harry felt confused at the moment. Slowly, the car's movement also slowed down, and he tried to think harder.
"Steve married your mom?"
"Yes, before he killed her."
"Explain about that. I'm going to pull over right now." Harry was so curious about that that he actually stopped the car on the side of the road. "You don't try to escape, it's useless, I've locked the door. You can't fight me, or I'll knock you out again. Do you understand?"
"I'm not stupid, you don't need to explain about that."
Harry smiled wryly. He twisted his body. "Good, now explain about it again."
"And after this, are you going to let me out of here?"
"No, I won't do that."
Jane rolled her eyes. "So what am I telling you? I need something in return if you want to hear my story, if you want to know the past of your boss, you have to pay me. Freedom is the best guarantee."
"Your position is very unfavorable here. Look, even if I don't hear about your story, I have nothing to lose. I can just focus on my own goals. So, explain right now."
"Looks like I have no choice, huh?" Jane gave a long snort. "Well, I've lost to you."
"So?"
"You are indeed an impatient man. Wait a minute, I'm wondering where to start." Jane was silent for a second, then she looked up, looking straight at Harry.
"Seven years ago, steve married my mother. you know, he was a poor old man, he didn't have anything."
Harry listened with narrowed eyes. Honestly, he was very interested in hearing the story Jane was about to tell. It was about his boss's past life, something Harry had never heard of.
He had worked for Steve for the last five years. That means that, two years after Steve married Jane's mother, Harry had only been working with Steve. But Steve was a rich old man, that's what Harry knew, so he could work for him.
If true, that means Steve's wealth came from Jane's mom. That's right, isn't it? Jane said Steve was a poor man to begin with.
"To be honest, when I first met the old man, I didn't like him. I knew that he didn't love my mom."
"How did you know?"
"I just knew, I could feel it. He doesn't love my mother, but he loves my mother's wealth. That's what really happened. But, my mother is so stupid, she doesn't realize that. Even though I told her about this, she didn't listen to me."
"And what happened after that?"
