Now, Jane's words weren't just made up. A form of torture did come to the woman when Harry brought her to Steve. Not only did Harry believe it, but now he really didn't think that Steve was being cruel to Jane.
From where he sat, Harry heard moans, screams, and harsh sighs. The handsome man's gaze kept focusing on a door that had slammed shut fifteen minutes ago.
Jane and Steve were inside. Harry couldn't help but stand still as he waited to see what would happen next. The man gulped harshly, his foot stomping a few times on the floor. Harry wanted to brush off the guilt that suddenly assailed him. This wasn't his fault. Harry was just doing his job. He kept convincing himself that he was innocent.
Not long after, Steve walked out of the room. Harry watched the old man. Even though Steve was almost 60 years old, the man looked so authoritative. His hair had started to turn white, and his eyes looked sunken with prominent cheekbones. Harry continued to watch until he finally forced a smile when Steve stepped toward him.
"Harry, come with me." Steve waved a hand, beckoning the man towards him.
"Yes sir." Without question, Harry stood up from his seat, stepping closer to Steve.
"Wait here for a moment, I'll lock this door so she can't get out."
At a glance, Harry could see into the room, where Jane and Steve had done "something" they shouldn't have. Jane wasn't lying about it, Steve was treating her like an animal. Harry couldn't help but feel a growing pang of guilt.
Jane was curled up in the corner of the room, with a fluffy white blanket wrapped around her. Her short hair looked even messier. Jane had her back to Harry, so he couldn't see her face.
Harry could only see it for a split second, Steve had already locked the door. The old man was wearing a white robe, he then told Harry to walk beside him.
Now, Harry wondered what would happen next. Where did Steve want to take him? Harry had no idea.
The two men then entered a room. Harry knew where he was. Steve took the handsome and charismatic man to his private room.
Steve closed the door once they were inside.
"I know you're cutting back on the alcohol, Harry, but can you keep me to a drink this time? It's a request."
Harry wetted his lips before he answered. "Champagne?"
"Yes, what do you think?"
Unable to resist, Harry finally nodded slowly. "Okay, but I can't drink that much."
"No problem, the important thing is that you want to drink. Come on, come here."
Harry stared at his boss as he grabbed a bottle of champagne from the top cabinet. Jane was right, Harry knew nothing about Steve.
"I can't live without a bottle of champagne, it's part of my life." Steve chattered, he was already sitting next to Harry.
Harry accepted the glass filled with a little champagne from Steve's hand. Again, Harry tried to put on a smile.
"Let's toast, to our glory and success."
The two glasses clinked as they touched. They both downed their champagne at almost the same time.
"Ah, it's very refreshing. What do you think, Harry?"
Harry shrugged his shoulders. "Yeah, it tastes the same, champagne."
Steve laughed at Harry's words. After that, the man crossed his legs. He looked back at Harry more seriously.
"Harry, I know that you are reliable, you can hold your own. Really, I thank you very much." Steve was so happy that he patted Harry's broad back. "I'm so proud of you, Harry. Thank you."
"I was just doing my job the way you wanted me to," Harry said.
"Good, I'll send the bonus to your account later. You've really done a great job. You know what, Harry? I'm so happy right now. She's here, she's in my house, she can't go anywhere else now."
This was Harry's chance to ask questions and find out. "What are you going to do about her?"
"Teach her a lesson before I do something bad to her."
Harry gulped harshly, then swirled the glass in his hand, before he finally asked. "Sir, are you seriously going to kill that woman?"
"Sure, but not now, not before I've had my fill of playing around with her."
Harry knew what Steve meant. "Playful" was the word that said it all. Steve was taking his lust out on Jane, his own stepdaughter. Harry hadn't expected that. The old man was so cruel and stupid. Harry had no idea that Steve would go this far.
"Harry, don't look at me like that, I know what you're thinking."
"Really?"
"Yes, you're thinking that I must be very cruel to her, right? I guessed it, Harry." Steve took another sip of champagne. "But I can't blame you. I'd probably think the same if I were in your shoes."
"I'm sorry, sir."
Steve waved his hand. "There's no need to apologize, you've done nothing wrong. But, let me explain to you. It's not for nothing that I treated that woman like that, Harry, she did something wrong."
And I already know that. Harry said silently.
The man pretended not to know. He turned his body towards his master. "What did she do wrong?"
"Unfortunately, I can't explain that to you. It's nothing, it's just too complicated, and I'm too lazy to explain it. You don't mind, do you?"
"No problem, it's none of my business, I'm just carrying out your orders."
Steve didn't want to explain that. Most likely, he didn't want others to know about his problem. Jane didn't seem to be lying. Steve didn't know that Jane had said quite a lot to him.
"Good, it's better not to think about it. Let that woman be my business."
"Sir, may I ask you a question?"
"You may. What do you want to ask about."
"I know that something happened between you, but did you need to kill her?" Harry scratched his brow. "I mean, was it necessary?"
"Harry, you don't know anything. She's a troublemaking b***h, I need to sort this out. She can't be hanging around, I won't rest easy if she's still alive."
"And why are you talking to me like this? Aren't you afraid I'll report you to someone else? Or maybe the police? After you kill that woman, I might do that."
"I've thought that through, Harry."
"So what?"
"I trust you, you've been with me for five years. You're not a traitor like that woman. You're different, you're different, you're my confidant. And I'm sure as hell that you wouldn't do that."
