9. Did He Kill Her?

1126 Words
"What? How?" Harry was shocked beyond belief. With his body straightened and his breath held in his throat for a few seconds, Harry blinked his eyes. Then, he closed the door on his trunk and entered deeper into the room. It was a large room, and Harry wanted to check it out. He glanced around, looking for any sign of Jane, but she wasn't there. Harry was frozen in place. There were only three possibilities that Harry could now think of. The first was that Jane had been killed by Steve after he had tortured her and taught her what the old man had said. Secondly, Jane could have escaped and gone somewhere, any place, where she felt safe and out of reach of Steve or his men. Then, thirdly, Jane has been moved to another room. This room was probably too luxurious for her. Of the three possibilities, Harry was most worried about the first. Steve might have already done the deed. Harry was too late to act because he was thinking too much. And this was the result, he didn't act fast enough, everything was already done. Harry suddenly went limp, and his saliva suddenly tasted very bitter. With his breath racing, Harry clenched his fists. Now, his cheekbones hardened, and he had to find Jane, even though she might be dead. Harry had to make sure and see with his own eyes where she was buried. So that everything is clear and not blurred. That was just Harry's assumption. He actually didn't know if Jane was still alive or not. "I haven't confirmed whether Jane is dead or not. As long as I haven't seen her body, I still have a chance and think that she is still alive." Harry whispered to himself. Then, he left the room. "I have to think positively, I have to think of other possibilities." If Jane really had escaped from this mansion, that was great news. But, if she was still here, behind the doors of the rooms Harry hadn't checked, Harry had to get her out of there. And, since Harry was still here, he would do just that, combing through all the rooms, checking them, and then dragging Jane out if he found her. Pressing his lips together, Harry walked out of the room, his steps slow, careful, and alert. He had to plant the thought that Steve really wasn't home. Moments later, Harry had already begun his work. He had checked several rooms, but Jane was nowhere to be found. Harry was losing hope, but he had to continue his search. Harry occasionally whispered Jane's name. "Jane, where are you?" Harry called out to her. "Tell me something so I can see you, I'll get you out of this house, I promise." Harry's sudden words were only met by a suffocating silence. The man hurried faster and faster, searching the rooms. However, after the search, Harry felt it was in vain as Jane was nowhere to be found. "Maybe what I was afraid of has happened," Harry said, "The bad thing is that Jane has gone to the sky, and the good thing is that Jane has escaped and gone to the free world." Harry stood with his eyes closed. Now, he had regrets. Regret always came later, after everything he did. The poor woman had already accepted her death, and Harry felt so foolish handing Jane over to Steve. He shouldn't have done that! Steve wasn't a nice old man, he was a criminal. Harry realized that. And now, he was at a loss as to what to do. Harry tried to think, but his brain was blank. What action should he take next? Should he ask Steve? Hi Steve, where is Jane now? Did you kill her and bury her somewhere? If I may know, where is her body buried? Is that so? No, that's ridiculous. Harry couldn't go to Steve and ask him directly like that. Unless he had to be patient until the day he worked for the man again. Harry had never been this confused before. Until finally, the handsome man heard the sound of approaching footsteps. Harry was startled, the manual blinked, then he turned his face this way and that. Someone was coming. Harry could feel it. He tried to find a suitable hiding place. Then, Harry moved quickly, he dove behind the sofa. Sure enough, he wasn't wrong, someone was coming. And the old man was Steve, the old bastard. Harry peered over, Steve wasn't looking at him. That's so good. Steve was striding hurriedly, moving towards a flight of stairs. Harry's instincts told him to follow the old man carefully. Harry did just that, he had to know where his boss was going. Maybe in the future Steve would no longer be his boss because Harry would do something he wouldn't like. Harry went to follow Steve carefully, lest he be discovered, or everything would go wrong. Steve was in such a hurry that he was oblivious to his surroundings, let alone Harry, who was trailing behind him. Harry hid behind a wall when Steve entered a room. The old man always left his keys dangling, probably because he didn't bother to look for them and put them in the keyhole. Losing the key could also be the reason why Steve didn't take the hole. When Steve had entered the room, Harry hurried to get there too, and he put his ear to the door leaf. Steve could be heard talking to someone. Harry frowned, and then realization hit him. Harry glared in disbelief. It's her, Jane! Jane was still alive, Steve had just moved her to this new place. That meant Harry hadn't killed Jane, as Harry had feared. Harry was absolutely certain that the person talking to Steve in there was Jane. The voice did belong to Jane, it was unmistakable. Unconsciously, Harry smiled. He still had a chance to save Jane, even though he knew it wouldn't be easy. Jane's life was at least still safe, and Harry couldn't be too late. He had to take action, whatever it took, to get Jane out of this house alive. It was hard to hear what the two of them were talking about, Harry couldn't hear them clearly. Harry tried to keep his ears open, but it was no use. The sounds he heard were only faint. In the end, Harry immediately hid behind a large pot of plants beside him. Steve was bound to come out again. It could be bad if the old man realized his presence. Steve did come out after that, and leave. Then, when Harry felt that the opportunity was before his eyes, he went straight into the room.
