Chapter 7: The Promise

Emerald stared at the cars as they drove off.She's treated like a queen. A knid of special life Emerald have always wanted to live but it seems too impossible. Her parents are gone and there's no money for that kind of princess treatment she've always wished for. Although , she's getting much attention and care from her Granny and Julie but it seems too far from the life of this new girl...She stared at the space in thought.

" Hey ", Zain interrupted her thoughts. Emerald didn't want to look at him nor say a word. Bingo, She muttered in disgust.

She felt someone's arm encircle her neck. Zain, she almost gasped in dislike.

Turning round, her eyes met Zarin's. A sigh of relief almost escaped her lips. It was Zarin not Zain.

" You must have waited so long ", Gabi said .

" Nope , it's fine ", was all she said.

They began to walk home, chatting and laughing on the way. Emerald wasn't talking as usual. She only listened to them and chuckle whenever something funny was said. She saw no reason to join their chat.

When Zarin was about to part his own way, he looked at her. " You look dull. Is there anything bothering you ? ", he asked thoughtfully.

" I'm fine ", She smiled warmly.

Zarin replied the smile. " Do you mind going for a walk with me in the evening ? Just want us to spend some time together ".

She stared at him, her lips forming up a sweet smile. " My pleasure ", she smiled as he leaned closer then kissed her cheek.

" I'll be waiting ", he whispered.

" No problem ", she grinned.

Getting home, she took a cool shower before heading to the kitchen. There, Julie served her a plate of pancakes and a chill soft drink to freshen up.

" Enjoy your lunch ", Julie passed it on the table for her to eat.

" Pancakes! ", she screamed like a child. How she enjoys eating her Granny's pancakes.Julie only smiled to this then walked to the sink to continue her wash up.

" How was school today ? ", Julie asked.

" Fine ", she answered as she chewed the pancakes pleasurably.

" Hope everything went well ? ", she asked, rinsing the plates.

" Of course ".

" I wouldn't like to disturb you while you're eating. We'll talk later ", she arranged the plates in the cupboard.

The evening was warm and calm. Emerald and Zarin had decided to take a stroll through the park. As they walked, the sun began to set, casting a golden glow over the park. They found a quiet spot under a willow tree.

They sat under the tree, observing the environment and in a rare silent moment, the stared at each other, their eyes sparkling in love.

Zarin looked into Emerald's beautiful eyes then back at her lips." Can I kiss you ? ", He whispered.

Without giving an answer, she leaned in and their lips met and touched gently, sending shivers down their spine.

As they pulled back gasping for air, Zarin smiled sweetly at Emerald.

" Promise not to leave ", Emerald blurted out.

" I promise ", he smiled then took her delicate hands into his and together they watched the sun go down.
