At this moment, Linnea finally sensed that something was wrong.
She turned around and saw me, a flicker of alarm crossed her eyes, but she quickly regained her composure and put on a cold, unfriendly expression.
I let out a short, sharp laugh. "Go on, why stop now? Feeling guilty?"
Linnea spoke in a mocking tone. "Me, guilty? You are the one who should feel guilty! You could do something so terrible and shameful, and still have the nerve to—"
Suddenly, a coworker named Lila gasped loudly, cutting Linnea off mid‑sentence.
"Oh my goodness! That little girl in the picture is actually the child of Hayden Reed!"
On Lila's phone screen, Hayden was holding the girl with such clear affection, smiling gently. The child's bright, wide eyes looked exactly like his. Her soft little arms rested around his neck, and a delicate gold bracelet on her wrist shone brightly.
Beyond that, their features were identical... like they had been cast from the same mold. Anyone looking at them would immediately recognize them as father and daughter.
Exclamations of surprise rang out one after another, and everyone in the room drew in a sharp breath.
Everyone knew who Hayden was, the wealthiest man in the entire country, and someone with a reputation for being unyielding and decisive.
Whoever crossed him would surely face consequences that would leave a lasting mark. Let alone someone who harmed his own daughter.
"Now Yvaine is in serious trouble!"
In an instant, the way everyone looked at me turned cold and distant.
Linnea's face twisted into a sneer full of scorn.
"Looks like this cruel scheme of yours has hit a wall. There is no one left who can save you now."
In the beginning, Linnea had seemed like a delicate, tender flower... someone I felt compelled to help.
While training her, I had wanted to teach her everything I knew, worried that she might make mistakes later and be unable to stand up for herself.
But now, she was nothing more than a poisonous bloom, hiding behind a false charm and youthful appearance.
Gone was the innocent, awkward look of someone fresh out of school. Her eyes now held a cold, venomous glint that made anyone want to look away.
"You know the truth better than anyone... whether any harm was done to that child," I said, laughing in anger.
By now, I could easily guess that Linnea was almost certainly the one who had shared the video. No one else had gone to such lengths to target me.
Linnea realized I had seen through her lies and false accusations. Her expression hardened instantly.
"What are you implying? Are you saying I am the one framing you? If you did nothing wrong, why did you take the child to the stairwell, where there are no security cameras? You obviously had something to hide!"
Seeing that Linnea and I were no longer pretending to be civil, other coworkers dropped their act of neutrality as well.
"You brought this on yourself... don't try to turn this around and blame Linnea. That is going too far."
"Exactly, try to be reasonable. Linnea would never stoop as low as you do."
"It happened in broad daylight... if you did it, you should have the courage to admit it."
