Demitri POV I step into the shadows, keeping my distance, watching her. I follow her, keeping to the shadows, careful to stay out of sight. She walks slowly, her clothes sticking to her from the rain, her head down, arms wrapped around herself as though she’s trying to shield against more than just the cold. I should turn back, I tell myself. I shouldn’t be here. But something keeps me following her, my footsteps quiet against the wet pavement. Twice, she turns, sensing someone. Her eyes scan the street, looking for movement, but I’m good at this. I stay hidden, watching her closely. Each time, she shakes her head and keeps walking, her pace quickening just slightly.
