Chapter 28

Me and Stefano follow Angelica, as we entered Roxanna's room there was a nurse, she looks familiar, Daniella, the nurse that treated my bullet wound, Daniella is sitting in the corner of the room writing something "that's nurse Daniella Gale, I'll be over in that corner with her" then she turns on her heel and make her way to Daniella, "thank you doctor" Stefano says, I've never seen this side of him, I don't think anyone has, he's the boss of the most feared and powerful mafia and here he is in front of me, looking so helpless.

Angelica reaches the desk in the corner by Daniella and starts reading a chart or something, me and Stefano walk to Roxanna's bedside. I stand closest to her, Stefano on the other side. I stand beyond stunned at the sight in front of me "oh my god" I say shocked, the state Roxanna is in is unreal "I know, it's bad" Stefano says, bad? Bad?! It's freaking unreal and sad, totally unbelievable. "Ann, she's so....." before I finished my sentence Stefano knows what I was going to say "I know officer, I know. I'll be having words with my men, and dealing with them" he says actually convincing, he must be telling the truth for a change "good, you seem to have gotten a soft spot there for Ann" I point out "you could say that, she's grown on me" he admitted "I know what you mean, trust me, I know what you mean" I said "at least that's 1 thing we can agree on" Stefano said, and he was right.

I start to get curious "true, so if she pulls through she's joining you?" "yes, she is" Stefano said as if he is proud to have her if she pulls through, I guess Roxanna can get through to the coldest stone hearts, then I made a decision "not for you, but for her sake, I'll keep the station off of your case. I don't know how, but I'll do my best, I'll also try to stall any break throughs on her case" Stefano looked at me with a slight smirk "wow, looks like I'm not the only 1 with a soft spot for the little firecracker" and again he's right "I guess not, just, try not to bring any attention to yourself" I said letting Stefano know he's right. He stays so calm agreeing with me, Stefano never agrees with anyone on the force on duty or not, "no problem with that, I'm staying with this 1 until she wakes up" I wanted to have some alone time with Roxanna, plus Stefano looked a wreck ready to explode,  so I say "ok, well if you want to go home and freshen up, maybe have a little nap, I'll stay here with her" Stefano hesitates for a bit, then speaks "I'd rather not leave her, just don't leave her until I come back" "I won't, don't worry" I reply, and with that Stefano left.

I sat down on the chair next to Roxanna's bed, I look at her weak, limp lifeless looking body and hold her hand really gentle, like she's a porcelain doll that will easily shatter to tiny pieces "come on Ann, wake up for me, please, we grew up together, so don't leave me now" I say as I gently hold her hand in both my hands resting my head down ever so lightly on our hands. Just then the doctor comes over and talks to me "are you ok there Tobias? Do you want to go get a drink or food? Or anything?" she asked with concern in her voice, I lift my head back up looking at Angelica "no thanks doc, I'm fine, I do have a question for you though" I say as my curiosity kicks in again "go ahead ask away" she answers with so much patience "what is actually up with Anna? Why is she in such a bad state? What caused it?" I ask wanting answers, she was trying to figure out how to tell me in a more simpler way "well, it's a list of thing really, there's poison in her system which we have to get rid of. Also it looks like she took quite the beating and torturing by all the marks on  her body and the injuries, but also past injuries haven't healed properly and it's all weakened her body while also causing multiple infections which are very severe and are going to cause septicaemia if we don't get on top of it now" my jaw dropped "but there's more" "more?" I asked, how could there be more? It's a hell of a lot as there is "yes, more. We also found a mixture of drugs in her system, I mean many drugs, so that won't be helping at all" Angelica finished, that isn't a surprise, "I was expecting that to be honest, she is an addict, doesn't go long without something" I say while taking in all the information.

Angelica starts changing IV bags and setting her up on a feed "well I would suggest, IF and right now that is a huge if. If she survives, I'd recommend her getting help, maybe going to a rehab, because if she doesn't stop, it will kill her sooner or later, more likely sooner rather than later. If this doesn't kill her, it won't be long until the drugs do" Angelica said very stern, I knew she was serious. I knew the drug addiction was bad, but I'd never of thought is was this severe, guttered by the fact I could lose my friend I say "oh man, if she wakes up and survives, I'm going to arrange something with my dad. He's a psychiatrist and also owns and works in a rehab hospital type of thing, he won't let her go until she's clean" "that's a good thing, it'll be what's best for her. You've just got to hope she pulls through, because her chances are looking very thin and her outcome looks really grim" Angelica says as she washes her hands "thanks doctor" and with that she goes back to the corner.

I look at Roxanna again, still holding her hand in my hands "see Ann, I told you, you need help getting off them horrid drugs. You had better pull through this, I'm not losing my childhood friend....again" I say as a tear rolls down my face, I go back to resting my head ever so gently on our hands.
