Slicing tomatoes, I felt a chill, then looked up to see Jasper at the door to the Dairy King. He pulled it open, ringing the bell. I should’ve known he’d put the pressure on right away.
It took him no time at all to find me as he scanned the kitchen area. With a wink, he came to the counter where Felicia asked, “What can I get for you today, sir?”
“How about a heaping helping of that redhead in the back there?” His smile was as wide as the Rio Grande as he looked at me.
Poor Felicia looked back at me over her shoulder with a frown, not knowing what to do or say. So, I came to her rescue. “This is Jasper Gentry, Felicia. He’s an old friend of mine and thinks he’s funny.”
“Friend, huh?” He held out his arms for a hug as I came from behind the counter.
