The call ends.
Lisa's final words keep echoing inside my head, repeating over and over until they drown out everything else.
For a few seconds I genuinely don't understand.
Then understanding begins creeping in and everything inside me turns to ice.
Amanda is the first person to react.
"What the hell does that mean?"
Nobody answers.
Especially not Janice.
I look at her and she looks like someone standing in front of an approaching train.
The expression alone makes my stomach drop because people don't look like that when accusations are false.
They look like that when they're true.
The realization hits so hard I actually take a step backward.
Janice notices.
The movement hurts her.
I can see it.
That somehow makes everything worse.
