While they are conversing among each other, suddenly Naveen fell down on the floor from the sofa & started having seizures uncontrollably and the foam is coming out of his mouth. Billy called in for an ambulance. After boarding Naveen into it, David & Smriti decided to rode with the ambulance to the hospital. Others rode back to the station.
Naveen did not survive, he died on the way to the hospital. The crime scene is sealed. Dinesh is doing the autopsy on Preeti. He has a new assistant in the lab, her name is Rajia Khan, she's doing the autopsy on Naveen. Dinesh called David to say that the autopsies are done. David & Billy came to the M.E.'s office. David" What can you tell me about the victims?"
Dinesh " They both died from poisoning. In case of Preeti, the poison is snake venom, more specifically cobra venom in very high dose. It's administered into Preeti's system by the water in the glass. The snake venom acted almost immediately & she is dead within thirty to forty-five minutes. But the poison in Naveen's system is rat poison, ingested with bread. The stomach content reveals undigested bread, maybe which he ate during lunch. The rat poison wasn't strong enough, so it took this much time to work but it worked.
David " Sounds like someone wanted revenge from both of them." He asked Billy & Ahmed to dig into the lives of the victims.
Smriti said " I have called the relatives. A cousin is willing to cooperate with our investigation. He is coming tomorrow."
David " Hmm."
According to information Ahmed gathered, Naveen worked at an IT company as a business development officer. He had worked there for three years, before that he worked at another IT company as a website developer. According to his colleagues & his boss at both his workplace, he was a model employee, a workaholic. He had an ex-wife, Maya Bhatia now Maya King, wife of Timothy King, settled in the USA, & a professor at Michigan University."
David " How did they meet?" Ahmed " They knew each other from college. They dated for three years, then they were married for a year." Ahmed " The maid said some very interesting things about them."
David " What's that?"
Ahmed " She said that Maya couldn't conceive, due to some medical problems. According to Veena, they separated two years ago. After the divorce, he started a relationship with Amrita Jaiswal."
David " What about the financial condition of the victims? Do they have any financial crisis, any mortgage, loan or debt? Any signs of gambling or any kind of unusual bank transactions?"
Billy " None."
David "Is there anything unusual in the emails, phone calls, texts, voicemails or social media posts. What about his relationship status?"
Ahmed " He was in a serious relationship with Amrita. I have called her, she is coming tomorrow for her statement."
David " Ok. Now let's focus on Preeti. What about her?"
Billy " Preeti is a senior scientist doing research at the university for quite some years. Can you hazard a guess about her research?"
David " No way! Are you kidding me? Snakes?"
Billy " Right. She's researching on how to fight autoimmune diseases using cobra venom as a medicine. She was single, thirty-five years old, two years younger than Naveen. But nothing is going on with her personal life."
David " Interesting. Any feud within the family?"
Ahmed " There were large amounts of family ancestral lands, which Naveen has sold for a huge amount of money. The profit was to be shared equally between his uncles & aunts, but they kept aside a huge amount of the money for himself. Others were not happy about it. So they didn't keep any contacts with Naveen or Preeti. Except one, the cousin Sudeep Bhatia. Sudeep was a drug addict, now he's clean for several years, happily married thanks to the victims. They helped him with his study, rehab, his business."
David "Let's talk to Veena & the cousin tomorrow. Ask Amrita to come for interrogation too."
