Sasha's heart tightened.
She was afraid that Felix would get angry and tear up the agreement if he saw it.
Felix was about to glance at the paper in his hand when his phone suddenly rang.
He answered the call.
All she could hear was Yvonne's aggrieved, sobbing voice.
"Ah! Stop hitting me. I was wrong. I shouldn't have been so shameless as to like Felix. I won't dare anymore..."
"Please, don't trash our store. Our boss is innocent. I'll resign. I'll leave..."
Felix immediately straightened up and let go of Sasha.
His gaze turned ice cold.
"Did you send someone to cause trouble at Yvonne's workplace?"
Sasha frowned.
"No, I didn't..."
But Felix wouldn't believe her.
He tossed the divorce agreement aside, turned, and rushed out.
He brushed past Lawyer Taylor at the door.
Downstairs, the sound of a car speeding away echoed. Sasha stood by the window, silently watching Felix's car drive away from her toward another woman.
She raised a hand and slowly wiped the tears streaming down her face. Then she bent down, picked up the divorce agreement, and went downstairs.
She handed the agreement to Lawyer Taylor.
"I need a divorce from Felix Sterling. Please take care of it."
Lawyer Taylor's gaze fell sympathetically on her prominently rounded belly.
"I'll process the divorce papers as quickly as possible."
"It should take about a week."
Sasha nodded slightly.
Her phone suddenly rang.
An unfamiliar number.
"Is this Mrs. Sterling?"
"Mr. Sterling rented a safe deposit box at our bank three years ago, and the lease has now expired. We can't reach him on his phone. Could you please contact him and ask if he wants to renew?"
Her information and Felix's had always been linked at the bank, each listed as the other's emergency contact.
Since the bank couldn't reach Felix, they called her instead.
But she had no idea that Felix had rented a safe deposit box at the bank.
And the number three years gave her a bad feeling.
Sasha had the bank send the box to her home.
It was a small box with a combination lock.
Felix still used the same old password, so she opened it easily.
When she saw what was inside, a chill rose from the soles of her feet and pierced her to the bone.
The contents were arranged neatly.
There were the couple's gloves that Yvonne had given him. Felix never liked wearing gloves, yet he had carefully treasured them.
There was a men's watch from a couples' set, engraved with the custom words "Felix Loves Yvonne."
There was a stack of photos of the two of them. In the pictures, Felix's eyes were soft, his gaze full of adoration for Yvonne.
There were also more than a dozen love letters that Yvonne had written to him back then.
Three years ago, when Sasha discovered those letters, she had torn them all to shreds and thrown them in Felix's face.
And now, those torn letters had been painstakingly taped back together.
Sasha could almost picture the look on Felix's face as he glued those letters together, longing for Yvonne.
For three years, while pretending to come back to the family, he had hidden this little world where he constantly pined for another woman.
Her marriage had been a complete mess from start to finish. It was utterly tragic.
This so-called return was nothing but a love scam built on lies.
"Ugh..."
How disgusting.
Sasha couldn't hold it in. She doubled over and dry-heaved.
The contents of the box scattered all over the floor, and she broke down into loud, ugly sobs.
Overwhelmed with emotion, she could barely breathe in her late pregnancy. She felt tightness in her chest, shortness of breath, and sharp, cramping pain in her abdomen.
She started to collapse weakly to the floor.
The maid was on leave, so she was completely alone in the house.
Trembling, Sasha crawled to her phone and called Felix.
It took a long time for the call to connect. Her voice came out hoarse as she pleaded.
"Felix, help me... My stomach hurts so much..."
Before she could finish, a familiar female voice cut in, interrupting her plea.
"Ah! Felix... gently... be gentle..."
Sasha's pupils widened slightly. All her words died on her lips. She went limp and collapsed onto the floor.
