~CAMILLA
I was running through the dark alleys of Oakwood town.
I clutched my stomach as I ran. My vision was beginning to blur from exhaustion. My heart was pounding hard against my chest. My breathing was beyond heavy.
I kept gasping for air as short sobs escaped my eyes. Adrenaline was the only reason I was still moving. Crimson liquid flowed out of the injury on my stomach and stained my blue dress.
I kept throwing glances behind me to see if I was still being chased. I did not think I could survive another hard run. I hoped that I had lost their trail.
The alley I had entered was even darker than the previous ones. Tall buildings lined the path on both sides and the moonlight was blocked by these same buildings.
Suddenly, I heard a gunshot and I ducked in front of a dumpster, on impulse.
My heart dropped to the pit of my stomach. My enemies had found me.
I had found the man who killed my parents and i had enough evidence to bring him down. This was why he had sent assassins after me.
I peered behind me to see that two men stood in the middle of the alley with guns in their hands.
They were ready to kill me.
My body began to tremble and I brought shaky hands to my lips. Tears escaped my eyes as I thought of the death that awaited me.
"I'm too young to die," I whispered to myself. "I have to stay alive."
I had just clocked twenty two a few days ago. I had many years ahead of me. I did not think it was fair for me to lose this life now. I had so much unfinished business in this world.
"You can't hide from us forever, beautiful," One of the men called in a baritone voice.
I gulped hard at his words as an involuntary shiver ran down my spine. He was mocking me because he knew that I was wounded and I could never escape them.
Suddenly, a gun was shot at the dumpster I was using as cover. I whimpered at the sound and brought both my bloody hands to cover my ears. I wondered why I had not peed myself yet.
I was sweating all over. I needed a doctor as soon as possible. I could feel my energy draining as the seconds passed.
"If you come out now, I promise to make your death painless," the second man called and followed it up with a chuckle.
His voice was tinier compared to the first man. But it had a way of making my skin crawl with fear. It made the hair at the back of my neck stand and increased the force at which my body vibrated.
For some reason, I felt as if he was even more dangerous than the first guy.
Despite the fact that the odds were against me, I told myself that I would stay alive. Dying was not an option for me. Not today, not ever.
"I see you're trying to hold on to the hope that you'll survive. I guess we'll have to come to you ourselves," the second man added.
I heard their footsteps as they began to approach me. I squeezed my eyes shut as I prayed for a miracle, a savior, anything. I did not want to die. At this point, I was desperate.
"You have nowhere to run, Camilla," the first man mocked.
Yet I was not ready to give up. So I looked before me and saw a smaller dumpster which I could easily lift. An idea immediately came to me and I slowly crawled forward to it.
When they got close enough, I picked up the trashcan and in a swift action, emptied its contents on both men, throwing the can itself at them in the process.
In that moment of confusion and distraction, I made a run for it.
"s**t! She's getting away!" The first man yelled.
"Shoot now! She must not escape! She needs to die today! She knows too much!" The second man roared.
As I ran, they began to shoot at me. I screamed at their actions as my fear increased yet I told myself that I would not stop. I would keep fighting until I survived it.
Even though my heart pounded so hard that I thought it was going to explode, I did not stop. Even though the pain from the injury I had sustained had drained me, I kept running. My eyes were wide open with fear as the adrenaline in my veins pumped even faster to the rest of my body.
I started to reach the end of the alley but there was still no answer to my dilemma.
Until a black car stopped in front of me, out of the blue. The door burst open and I saw my hope, my safety and my escape in that car. Without thinking twice, I jumped into it and they shut the door behind me.
My vision started to blur and sounds began to echo around me. I could not make any sense out of what was happening. The world began to spin and I felt dizzy.
"What is your name?" I heard multiple voices echo into my ears.
"Camilla. . ."
There was this strange scent about them that kept sipping into my nose. It was somewhat soothing as it lulled me into a sense of security.
"Will she survive it?" I heard another echoing voice.
More gunshots erupted but the car drove off just as fast. I tried to stay awake but I did not have control of my body anymore. I felt too pale and weak. I had probably lost too much blood.
Yet I was too scared to let the subconscious world claim me. What if I never woke up again?
"You'll be fine," Another voice said but this one was kinder. All I could see was his green eyes. "Just go to sleep," he muttered.
My vision continued to fail me but for some reason, I believed the strange green eyed man whose face I could not see.
Darkness began to creep into my vision until his eyes drowned in that darkness and I felt completely alone.
I had lost to the subconscious world in the end.
