Chapter 10

Elizabeth’s POV Today was a great day out. We got to relax and get to know Hunter, Jacob and Kyle in a more relaxed setting. Kyle went all out shopping to Josie’s excitement. We were able to pick up more clothes for me and Helen since we will be staying in the kingdom. I even picked up a few hair products. The shampoo and conditioner they use here doesn’t do my hair justice. I need a detangler and treatment to keep mine under control. I did think about getting it cut, so it would be more manageable, but Kyle refused. We stood outside the front of the hair salon for 20 minutes arguing about it. He said he would wash and brush my hair every morning and night if it meant I kept it long. Men and their need for us women to have long hair. “And I meant every word” he whispered in my ear, coming up behind me and wrapping his arms around my waist. Him, Hunter, Jacob, Lucas and Uncle Steven had left to speak with their father the moment we got back. I headed to my room to put my clothes away. “Are you reading my thoughts again?” I giggled, turning to face him in my closet. I had just hung the last of the new clothes. I am convinced he has a mind reader in his ancestry; most likely his great-grandmother. I wouldn’t be surprised if her or Kyle’s great-grandfather kept it a secret. “I’m trying not to. Sometimes your thoughts are too loud” he chuckles, pecking my cheek. I can feel he is nervous about something. Kyle takes my hand and walks me out of the closet, sitting down on the sofa. He pats the cushion next to him and I sit down. “There’s something Lucas, Hunter and I need to discuss with you and Helen”, he begins to tell me. I stared into his brown eyes, and he gave me a nervous smile. “It’s about the enchantment.” And there goes my great day. Every time someone wants to talk to all three of us about the enchantment, it always ends the same way. There’s nothing they can do to reverse it and I lose more than what I bargained for. Am I going to lose Kyle? Is he going to reject me? He said he would never reject me and if I rejected him, he wouldn’t accept it. “Hey, I’m not going to reject you” he coos, pulling me to his chest. There he goes again, reading my thoughts. Maybe that’s why the moon goddess paired us together; so, I don’t overthink things anymore. “Let’s go to my office and the five of us can talk.” Wait, he has an office? Kyle silently chuckles next to me and helps me to my feet. I walked with him to the second floor and into a small office space. It’s very clean with file cabinets in one corner and a desk in the center. There’s a computer screen sitting in the middle of the desk, with a pen and notepad on the side of it. A few minutes later, Lucas, Hunter, Helen, Jacob and Uncle Steven come into the office. Now I know I’m going to lose something if Uncle Steven is here too. “Firstly, I want to tell everyone the real reason why Lucas came to the castle. It was to investigate the enchantment” Uncle Steven says, while signing for Lucas. “He was always going to take over the Alpha role when he came of age, whether he knew what to do or not.” “You found something?” Helen asked, and Uncle Steven signed her question. “Not exactly. We have a name for it”, he explains, and I slide backwards in my chair. Kyle grabs my hand and rubs circles on the back of it. “It’s called three monkeys. Grandpa couldn’t find much more about it either. There was something about the mate bond, but it was very vague. It doesn’t say if the mate bond will help or hinder the enchantment.” I heard Helen gasp and I let out a long breath. There it is; I can’t have Kyle as my mate because it may hurt him in some way. “Hey, we will figure this out together” Kyle says through a mind link, bringing my hand to his mouth and kissing the back of it. “What did it say about the bond?” Helen questioned and Uncle Steven signed the question to Lucas. Lucas lets out the breath he was holding and sucks in another one. “It said, the fated of the enchanted will create a bond like no other. They will prosper in the enchantment and be bound forevermore”, Lucas exclaims, reading from his phone. I assume grandpa sent it to him as a text. “That could mean anything. Am I supposed to mate with Helen and go blind like her if I do”, Hunter says, signing at the same time, and Helen starts shaking her head. “I like the thought of having a bond with her like no other and losing my eyesight is a small price to pay to have her with me.” “I agree. Losing my speech is nothing compared to not being with Lizzy. I would like to risk it”, Kyle says next to me and my eyes go wide in shock. “No, no, no” I started signing. “You are the future king. You can’t put yourself at risk for me. I won’t allow it. I, Elizabeth…” “You promised” Kyle whispers, grabbing hold of my hands. The tears that threatened to escape, finally fell like a rainstorm. I couldn’t stop. He pulls me off my chair and onto his lap, wrapping his arms around me. I buried my head in his neck and breathed in his rosemary and cedar scent. “I agree with Lizzy” Helen said. I can hear the shocked gasps around the room. “Lucas told me what she signed. I can’t have you risking your sight for me.” “We don’t know if we are risking our voice or sight. We don’t know what it means. It could mean the opposite”, Kyle states, and I turn myself to look at him. He gave me a smile; “we won’t know unless we try. It says we will create a bond like no other. That alone says we need to be together; everything else doesn’t matter.” “Lizzy, Helen, Lucas. I don’t want any of you to lose your fated mates because of this enchantment. Julie and Lucinda wouldn’t have put it on you if you were going to be at risk. Derek and Robert would never have allowed them to hurt you either. They would have spoken among themselves well before you were born if such a scenario arose. Unfortunately, one did” Uncle Steven said as more tears fell down my face. Helen didn’t hold back her tears either at the sound of her parent’s names. I think Lucas had a few tears too. I know what to do. I’m going to go first and mate with Kyle. If something bad happens then we can look at a different way for Lucas and Helen. It’s the price I have to pay to keep them safe. Kyle looks down at me with the biggest smile. I roll my eyes and shift, so I can sign... “No, I want to tell them” he says, grabbing hold of my hand. I nod, and he pulls me closer to him; “Lizzy would like to mate first”, Kyle announces, and Uncle Steven stops signing to stare at him. I move off Kyle’s lap as he continues, signing himself for Lucas. “She wants to make the sacrifice and mate with me to see what happens. If it’s something bad, then we can look at it a different way. If it’s something good, Lucas has something to look forward to.” “It’s about f*****g time” Lacey remarks, coming forward in my mind. I swear this she-wolf is hornier than any other being alive, and I’ve met a few, Kyle included. “Can you blame me? You said yourself, mate was created by the moon goddess herself. Once I see Josiah, I’m going to let him mount me over and over again.” Oh s**t, we haven’t let our wolves meet yet. What kind of person am I to not get them to meet? “We have plenty of time for that” Kyle mind links. I grabbed his hand and gave it a gentle squeeze. “Are you sure you want to do this?” Lucas’ voice comes through my mind. “If for any reason, Lacey doesn’t want to, just stop OK. She will know more about what is about to happen than you will.” “Are you kidding? She is rolling around in my mind like a horny dog. She’s been at me to mate since we first saw Kyle”, I answer back and Lucas lets off a small snicker. “If she is fine with it, it can’t be all bad” he says, cutting the mind link. That comment made me more at ease about the whole thing. “If we are done here, I have some mating to do with my mate” Kyle says, standing up from his chair. He takes my hand and lifts me up by his side. Uncle Steven opens his mouth to say something, then closes it again. “Don’t worry Steven, I will make sure to take very good care of her.” He must have heard Uncle Steven’s thoughts, or he mind linked to him, not sure which. Without anything else being said, Kyle leads me out of the office and down the stairs. When we get to the bottom, he picks me up bridal style and runs to his bedroom. Keen! “Yes! Yes, I am” he says, and I giggle inwardly. He kisses me passionately and places me on his bed. I need to do this. I want to do this. It’s meant to be.
