CHAPTER 1

Alexandra sighed as she walked back into her home after taking the trash out. She did not know who they were trying to fool but she could clearly see them. She went inside and moved to the living room. She edged around the wall and saw him sitting on the couch. "You know, if you want to see me you can call me like a normal person. There is no need to creep around my street. I can make all the soldiers and the car at the end of my street." General Sawyer turned around and motioned for her to sit before him. She walked into the room and sat across from him.  "Clearly they are getting sloppy if everyone of them is made." She did not say anything and continued looking at him. He looked around the living room and saw the pictures on the wall of her with a little girl. The entire living room is covered with pictures of different ages of the little girl. He continued looking at them for a while and a small smile crossed his face. "She is growing up. Last I saw she was still crawling." "Yes. She is five years old now." "Where is she?" "She is still sleeping. We had a late night." They sat silently for a while longer. Alex did not say anything but waited for him to tell her why he is there. Finally he exhaled a heavy breath and started talking. "I have a mission for you. It's..." She did not let him finish his sentence.  "You know I retired. I'm not interested. And I have a little girl to think of now. I can't just leave her and go into dangerous situations." "I know. Do you remember Colonel Andrews?" "Yes." "His daughter Amelia and her husband Dimitri were murdered last month. It was made to look like an accident." "I still do not understand what I should do about this. The local cops can handle this or maybe someone else can handle this." Sawyer removed a folder from his jacket and placed it on the table between them. When she did not move to take it he pushed it towards her and opened it. She saw Amelia in the picture along with a handsome man in his thirties with dark hair. There was another picture of them with two kids who looked to be six years old.  "No one can handle it as no one knows it is murder. Everyone is thinking that it is an accident. The kids stayed home that day so they were fine. " "Ok. So how does this concern me?" "This concerns you because you are best at this type of mission. And Dimitri is not someone who should be taken lightly. He is the crown prince of a small island in Greece. Amelia met him while she was traveling and they fell in love. She married Dimitri against her father's wishes and stayed in Greece. She started talking to Andrews after the birth of her children. Now she and her husband are dead." "If it is not an accident then how did they die?" "Dimitri used to get several death threats everyday. As he has his own security they took all the precautions. But the Colonel wanted his own after hearing about some of them. So he discretely placed some people around her. They got word that something is wrong but before they could do anything the accident happened." "So who did it?" "We have no clues and we do not know. And now their kids are in danger. We think it is for the throne." "So you want me to go there and protect the kids." "Yes. But you can not go like this. The kids are staying with Dimitri's brother according to Dimitri and Amelia's will. And he already has much better security. He will not take you no matter how good you are." "Then how am I supposed to protect the kids if I'm not with them?" "The kids are really a handful. They already had five nannies in the past two months. You will be joining as their new nanny. That way you will be close to the kids and keep an eye on everything." "You want me to be the nanny of kids? Are you sure you are alright, General?" "I'm not joking, Knight. This is the best we could come up with in this time frame. We already have a CV ready for you. Your background is foolproof. And we also informed that you have a kid yourself." "You came prepared thinking that I will say yes." "I know you will say yes because it is about kids." Sawyer removed another file from his jacket and placed it on the table. Alex picked it up and looked through it. It had all the required papers and information she needs to know before she can go to Greece. Her name did not change only her qualifications changed to suite the job. She sighed and placed it on the table.  "Fine. I will do it. But you know how I do things." "The Colonel knows. He has no problem with it as long as the kids are safe. We already contacted the military there and informed them. They know about you but they do not know what you look like. We got their permission but Colonel Andrews had to call in a few favors." Sawyer got up from the couch and shook Alex's hand. "Good luck, Major." Alex watched as the General left her home and all the soldiers who were watching her for a few days left with him. She smirked imagining their training now that they were made. She knew how hard that was.  Alex was a military kid. Her dad was a Colonel in the army. She grew up with other kids of the soldiers. But she was different from the other kids from a young age. The teachers labelled her as a prodigy. She retained everything she read or heard and she picked up things faster than most soldiers. When her father died in the line of duty when she was fifteen she was recruited into the special branch of the military whose sole purpose is to prevent threats to the government. She rose in the ranks faster than most soldiers and finally she was a Major in the Army. And it all changed to living like this after that mission. Before she can think more on that mission she heard Rose on the stairs.  She turned around and had to brace herself before Rose tackled her. She lifted her up into her arms and carried her to the kitchen. Placing Rose on the table she made pancakes and together they had breakfast. Afterwards she took Rose to the living room and both of them sat on the couch. "Sweetheart, you remember General Sawyer, don't you?" "Yes, the big scary one with the mustache." Alex laughed at Rose's description of Sawyer. She is definitely going to tell him of this when she meets him. "Yes. That's him. He came this morning and he had an important job for me. " "Are you going away?" "No, sweetheart. You are coming with me this time. But this is a secret so you should not tell anyone that I'm from the military. I will be a nanny which means I will look after another two kids along with you. I'm going there to protect them from some bad people. " "Ok. I will not tell anyone. Where are we going?" "We are going to Greece, sweetheart."
