The news of Wyatt’s death had deeply shocked Audrey, filling her night with nightmares of dread. The next morning, she showed up to the interview with several layers of makeup covering the dark rings around her eyes after having several cups of coffee. The news didn’t seem to affect Marius at all as he sat coolly in the middle of the conference room, one leg neatly folded over the other. Audrey moved to the cameraman, the only other person in the room, whispering a few lines of instructions. She turned to sit across from Marius, his cold eyes on her. Once they were ready, the interview started simple and easy, the questions becoming harder and more in-depth as they went on.
“What is one quote you live by?” They were nearing the end of the interview.
“In life, you get what you put in. Everything comes back around. I work very hard, so I never fail in achieving what I work for.”
“What is an important work policy that you enforce?”
“I absolutely detest sloppiness. I expect my employees to do their work well, dress well, and eat well. If you can’t do these simple things, I don’t believe your standards fit in with mine.”
“What is your life goal or some milestones you’d like to meet?”
“First and foremost, I’d like to see Stygian Studios to become one of the top brands. A brand name that everyone will know and set a standard by. The other is to live out my life as happy as I can. To do that, I must ensure that I can get everything I want.”
“Are you currently in a relationship?”
“My ex-girlfriend and I broke up recently, but I must say, I still love her very much. I hope that we will get back together. If we do, I will marry her right away.”
“This is the end of our broadcast with Stygian Studios’ CEO Marius Alarie. Wishing you well. This has been Audrey Marchand from Blank Multimedia.” Audrey thanked the audience, ending the interview immediately. She moved to speak with the cameraman one more time, leaving the room as abruptly as she could. She left for the exit of the hotel, fresh air being the one thing she desperately needed. As she reached the curb outside the front of the hotel, the wind blew through her hair and the thin material of her clothing, feeling as if she could breathe again. A shiver washed over her as Marius’s words and stare replayed in her mind. Audrey walked away from the front door, her phone buzzed in her pocket.
“Hello?”
“Audrey,” Jocelyn’s voice shook over the receiver.
“Jocelyn, where are you?”
“In my room. Where are you? We need to talk.”
“Just outside the hotel.”
“Ok. I’ll be there soon.”
Audrey stuffed her phone back in her pocket, enjoying the scenery around the hotel. Leaves had begun to fall, turn brown, and scrape across the ground where the wind took them.
“Audrey?” A cab pulled up to the curb, the back door opening, expelling a figure in a black hoodie, the hood pulled over his head, sunglasses hiding half of his face. Even with his disguise, Audrey could tell it was Kerem. “May we talk?”
“I need to talk with Jocelyn, my manager, first.”
“Of course.”
“Audrey!” Another voice broke in, a larger figure breaking into her vision, his hand reaching out and grabbing her wrist. Audrey gave a small howl of pain. “We need to have a chat!” Kerem stepped forward, knocking Marius away.
“You’re hurting her!”
“Mr. Bassett? If I were you, I’d stay out of this.” Marius warned, grabbing Audrey again. Kerem once again pushed him away, breaking his hold.
“That’s no way to treat a woman, no matter who you are.”
“This is between me and her.”
“I don’t care. She obviously doesn’t want to go with you and that is no way to treat her.”
“You will regret this.” Marius stalked away.
