3 Years Later

“Astrid! Coffee is ready!” I hear my roommate Lily yelling at me. Lily was also my best friend here. Ive been in Texas for 3 years now. I haven’t heard anything back home. My mom hasn’t even tried to contact me since I left her at Mikes house. For all I know she could be dead from a drug overdose. Ive even tried calling the house phone, but she never answers. I get worried sometimes, but I remind myself it’s not my problem anymore.

I moved in with Lily as soon as I got to TX. I found a ad online for a roommate in a nice neighborhood that I could afford with the money I had on me at the time. I have my own bedroom and bathroom. It was heaven from what I had back home. Lily wasnt like me at all she was bubbly and lived a good life. She looked like a model at 5’9 long legs and blonde hair. She came from money. Which is why I got the room at a good price. We became friends quickly because she cared. Which I love about her.

“Ill be right there!” I yell at her. I grab a pair of jeans and a short sleeve black blouse. My style has changed since I moved. I dont try to cover as much as I used to. Although Lily would say otherwise. I run to the bathroom and change and put some makeup on. Brush my long black hair, and clip it to the side. Took me about 10 min to get ready.

“Good Morning! Heres your coffee. So what do you have planned today?” The only time she asks me about my plans is when she has plans and wants me to go with her. “Oh nothing, its my day off. So probably go out grab lunch and come home and watch tv.” She looks at me curious, with a smile on her face. I know shes about to ask me something.

“Soooo, if you aren’t going out later. Would you come with me to this party tonight? Its at a new club in Austin! I heard its owned by some really hot Bikers!” She starts giggling like a little school girl. “Lily I love you, but you know I don’t do parties. It’s just not my thing.” Lily looks at me, and starts to give me puppy dog eyes. “I know it’s not. But since I’ve known you for 3 years now you’ve only gone with me 4 times. And I really want to go with my best friend especially if a bikers owns it.” I laugh at her, she was so pretty always had some guy over. But could never keep a guy, which I could never understand why. Lily was what every guy wanted from what I saw on tv and movies. But they just never stuck.

“You know that I wouldnt have fun, im always the sober one. Thats no fun” I laugh at her. “Oh come on Astrid, pleasse for meee! Ill even buy you a new outfit

!” She says all giddy towards me! “We will have so much fun! And if you dont then ill do the dishes for a month!” I laugh at her

offer. Lily always tried to get me out of my comfort zone. She wanted me to be happy, and live life. But I liked where I was. My ho

job as a administrator in a corporate office. That was who I was now, and I loved it.

She was my best friend, and I never go out So why not, one time wouldn’t hurt. And if I dont like it she did say she would do dishes for a month, which I didnt mind. “Ughhhh why not. Yeah Ill go. But like you said if I dont like it you have to the dishes!” She yelled “omg yay!!! You’re going to have so much fun!!!! We are going to have so much fun!!!” “Lets go shopping hurry up and grab your purse, Ill drive!”

I grabed my purse and keys, and went on our way. We stopped at a small boutique in town where Lily loved to shop. “Pick anything you want! Im buying!” She flashes her black card she got from her dad. He owned a law firm in Austin, she actually got me my job there. Which I owed her for.

I looked around, saw some cute dress but they weren’t my style mostly all Lily’s style. Clingy, flashy and shows skin. I look up and Lily and shes holding this black dress. “Look this would look amazing on you! Try it on!” “Lily thats a little much dont you think?” I just stared at it. I dressed differently then I used to, but I was still a little uncomfortable with my own skin. “It will look great on you! Try it on please? For me?” She make this ridiculous pouty face. Makes me laugh. “Yeah ill try it on, but I wont like it!” I laugh at her.

I put the black dress on, it has a deep V neckline, with off the shoulder sleeves. About knee length with a slit on the side that wasn’t to high. It hugged my body. This wasn’t me. But I couldn’t stop staring at myself, I actually looked good. I felt hot to be honest. And I havnt felt this ever.

I walk out and Lily gasped. “OMG ASTRID! This is the dress! You look Amazing! Im buying it right now!” She starts to clap her hands in excitement. “I do have to say, i look pretty good. You know id normally wouldn’t wear something like this but I feel good in it.” She smiles at me, its a warm smile. Which makes me feel even better.

I go ahead and take the dress off, and give it to Lily to buy. We go ahead and head home so we can get ready for this new club.
