I couldn’t deny the fact that his words made me a lot more uncomfortable than I would have been if we had been having this conversation in person. I felt like I would have been able to influence the way he had said it a lot more than I was able to now. He was miles away—wherever it was, it had to be far away, even if he happened to live in the same town as my parents did—and that factor right there, was what gave him all of this courage that he seemed to have at the moment.
