The island consisted of a single point of entry, a large gate, protected by two guard stations. From this station a grey stone path ran to the shoreline where, concealed below a few inches of water, was a stone bridge. The middle section of this bridge was controlled in a similar manner to the port access in Albeth castle. However, in order to gain entry to Mirage Lake, the centre section of the bridge needed to be raised to draw level with the rest, rather than descend into the water as it did at Albeth Castle. This feature prevented any without invitation from approaching, and also became the second reason for the location's name.
