From Janitor To Guardsman

I opened my eyes and couldn’t help but scream at the shadow over my head, or rather not a shadow, but a person. “Vi…..Vice Head is anything wrong?” I asked as I sat up. “Why don’t you tell me? I ASKED YOU TO JUST CLEAN THE BOOODY DORM! YOU WEREN’T SUPPOSED TO FIGHT THE RATS! I WAS WAITING ALL DAY FOR YOU TO COME ASK FOR HELP!” He shouted as I slowly got back up to my feet. “Oh!” I replied, not at all sure what to say in this situation. “oh? Is that all you can say oh? You’re not like other people are you? None the less you’ve completed the mission and even gone above what was expected of you. So definitely there’s going to be some extra rewards, and with how smart you were in getting rid of those rats, I feel it’s going to be a waste of your talents to have you cleaning dorms. Come along, receive your reward and begin your training in earnest.” I was a bit confused, but I guess I might have gone a little overboard with the entire thing. The time within the virtual realm and the real world is synchronized, so which meant I’ve been in this game for 24 hours. There are some games that employs the time dilation technology, though because there’s a sparse amount of information about Ninjutsu Online, I had no way of knowing if the game was synchronized with real life, or it’s time ran a lot faster than normal. [System Alert: You Have Completed A Clan Quest: Grade D+: Clean The Entirety of the abandoned western residential dorms./Conditions: access to other quests restricted until current quest is completed./ Reward: +10 Clan contribution points, +1 to strength and physique stats, One bowl of miso ramen.] (Rating SSS) [For completing the quest with a rating of SSS, you’re rewards have been improved to +5 in all stats, +50 clan contribution points, 1 random D Rank Ninjutsu , and 1 random D Rank FuinJutsu, and a one week all you can eat ramen coupon.] Well the rewards were really great, and it seems working my ass off was worth it. At the moment I had no idea what this clan contribution points could be used for, but at the very least it can’t be for nothing. I followed Arashi, or rather the vice head back to the massive tree with a spiral on it. He stopped right in front of the tree then turned to me. “This is the Kiryū bloodline tree, it has been mostly dormant for 200 years, but it is the receptacle of all knowledge about the Kiryū clan and their secrets. I guess you could say it’s a library, and also a temple where we honor the great works and deeds of our ancestors. All your rewards from any clan quests, except for food and armor can be obtained from the tree. It has knowledge of thousands of techniques, many of them belonging to the Kiryū clan, and many more techniques from other clans or the ninja world itself. With the contribution points you’ve gained, you can exchange it for knowledge and weapons from the tree, and you can also exchange knowledge with the tree and be rewarded. For example if you create a new technique and register it with the Kiryū clan and deposit it to the tree, the tree would give you a technique of equivalent grade, and also contribution points to purchase something else. But that’s until you create a skill. You can also purchase classes, but that’s until you have gained enough contribution points. Now place your hand on the tree and receive your rewards.” The explanation he gave was much better than the introduction he rendered the first time I logged in, looks like I’ve gained a special appreciation from him, or maybe he was just in a really good mood today. I moved towards the tree and placed my hands on it, and for a moment I was really surprised about how smooth it was to the touch. {Registering Clan Member………} • NAME: Christopher Kiryū| AGE: 23 | CLAN POSITION: Outer Clan Recruit +| CONTRIBUTION POINTS: 50 {Delivering rewards…….Ninjutsu-(Switching Technique), FuinJutsu-(Camouflage)} As soon as the tree finished delivering it’s message, the spiral on its trunk lit up and two scrolls came out of it and landed in front of me. I picked them up and almost immediately another informed screen appeared in front of me. {NINJUTSU TECHNIQUE: SWITCHING: GRADE D: REQUIREMENTS: MIND 2, SPIRIT 2, PHYSIQUE 4: an escaping technique that allows a ninja to switch places with an inanimate object. At higher levels the ninja can switch with living beings.} {FUINJUTSU TECHNIQUE: CAMOUFLAGE: GRADE D: REQUIREMENTS: MIND 4, SPIRIT 4: a seal technique that blends an object, or a person into their surroundings, effectively hiding them from sight.} There were no immediate applications in combat for the skills that were given to me, except maybe for the (Switching Skill), and the camouflage seal had to be used at a time when the enemy would not be able to see it. Thankfully I met all the requirements to use the skills, and so I happily learnt them. (You have learnt Ninjutsu: Switching) (You have learnt FuinJutsu: Camouflage) • Name: Christopher /Clan: Kiryū • Level: 4(64%) /Class: N/A • Bloodline:??? / Faction: Shōkan / Rank: None • Strength: 13/ Physique: 13/ Agility: 11/ Spirit: 10/ Mind: 12 • Stat Points: 5/ Jutsu Points: 0 • Taijutsu: None • Ninjutsu: (Switching level 1) • Genjutsu: None • Kenjutsu: None • FuinJutsu: (Camouflage level 1) The knowledge of how to use those techniques seemed to be deposited straight into my head, it was rather amazing as hand seals are required for them to be activated. But never the less I was done with this particular clan quest, now I was ready for another, and from the look of things Arashi had another mission in store for me. [System Alert: You Have Been Issued A Clan Quest: Grade D+: The clan storage has been suffering from a case of constant theft for the better part of a week. Guard the storage for three nights and lay in wait for the culprit, as soon as he or she is found, notify the proper authorities, or try and apprehend them yourself./Conditions: access to other quests restricted until current quest is completed./ Reward: +30 Clan contribution points, +1 to Spirit, Mind and Agility stats.] Well would you look at that, a promotion! Now I was no longer a janitor…..now I was a guard. How cool is that…..yay!
