Who I am

"What happened?" everything was fuzzy, like I had fainted. "They tried to take you but, you passed out and I brought you back here where you are safe." he sounded proud, like he had saved my life. "Adrian, I don't think those 'things' want to hurt Me." why would they want to hurt me if they think I could help them? What were those things? "Why were they calling me their princess?" I was no more royal blood than my first best friend pretended to be. "Because to them; you are. There are a lot of things you don't know yet, Danya." Why was everyone so cryptic around here? What are they hiding from me? "We have to protect you from yourself, that's why." he sounded frustrated, like he wanted to share with me this big secret but something was keeping him from it. "Protecting me from myself? How? I don't need you or anyone else to 'protect' me." I can't believe he and everyone else, for that matter, had the nerve to tell me I need to be protected. "Like the vampire said, there is still a lot you don't understand, woman." It was thorn. "You need to speak with my mother. NOW." I didn't get it, was she talking to ME like that? Her a 17-year-old girl, talking to me like I'm a child? That didn't set well with me. "Merry meet, Danya." there was a voice I could smile about hearing. It was Ven. "Please, come with me. We need to speak." Finally, someone was actually asking me to do something instead of ordering me around! That, i could handle. "Why did the 'ghouls' call me princess?" after walking in silence for what seemed like the better part of an hour, she finally answered. "You are special. You are a person of legend." Was everyone in Phirias batshit crazy? "What do you mean; I'm a person of legend?" I began to get a feeling that I wasn't going to like the response. My whole life, I've been the one that tries my damnedest to stay out of the limelight. I didn't want to be popular. But, for some reason, I always ended up getting the attention I never wanted. That's why when I met Cian, it seemed like my world was complete. He always had the insane yet amazing ability of staying just enough under the radar that we both got the privacy we had always wanted. Yet, not too far under to be considered anti-social. Ven sighed. "You are a princess, Danya. You are the first of the thirteen daughters of the goddess." This was a lot to take in. First, I wake up in this crazy place, find out that I've been in a coma for however long, find out that vampires and 'witches' among other things actually exist, and now I've been told that I'm a wiccan princess? What happened to everything being simple? I was a writer, a mother, and a fiancé' once. Why now do I have to be this 'person of legend'? "I know it's a lot to take in so far but, bear with me, there's more. You have 12 sisters you and Adrian need to find." her face hardened with concern when she looked at me. “You mean that story is real?” I stifled a laugh. “My grandmother used to tell me that story when I was younger.” You were meant to be guided by us and to find all of your sisters." She obviously had to be joking. I had 2 brothers and a little sister. Other than that, there were no more children born in my family. That thought made me shudder. What if I really was the only one of all 4 of us left? That would mean I was the last in my bloodline. Ven looked amused, as if she could read my thoughts. Little did I know surprise!!! She actually can. "I didn't mean mortal bloodline, Danya. I meant your soul sisters. They are the ones you need to find." You should start by going to speak to Prudence. She can tell you more about the legend than anyone alive at this point." Great! I thought to myself, I get to go speak with my least favorite person alive. Well, at least to my knowledge. "What happens if I don't accept this pseudo quest?" I wanted to know if it was too late to back out now. "The world and everything in it will be torn apart due to the imbalance that the missing sisters bring when they are apart." I squirmed a little bit at the thought. "Your mother needs your help now." I sighed. Walking over to the house that ran through the town seemed longer than anything I've endured so far. I walked in and she found me almost instantly. "Why are you here?" She looked at me with disgust. "Your daughter sent me here. I know about the legend. I need you to tell me the full version and don't leave anything out. I'm tired of everyone being so shady around here. Especially when it comes to MY life and who I am." I came here hoping to find answers. I was hell-bent on getting them. "The legend started with the Goddess being lonely. Her children return to her upon death but only to leave her again. The thirteen sisters were different. She gave them all very special gifts. They didn't have lives in mortal bodies, they weren't meant to." She paused. I didn't think the woman was capable of it but, she had tears in her eyes. "Please, continue Prudence. I need to know." I really said that because I didn't want to do this but, if it meant seeing Cian and Lilly again, I would do anything. “The goddess kept watching her children, like she always does. And because she has given us all the gift of free will, we make mistakes. She saw that we, her children, started to destroy ourselves and destroy the beautiful place she gave us. That's where the sisters come in. She sent the sisters to reason with us. But the sons of the demons below stole all of them. The sons trapped the sisters in mortal bodies and they were never able to continue how they were before. The sisters were lost. Damned to wander lifetime to lifetime while the sons laughed as the world fell apart. The loss of her closest daughters made the Goddess weep. That is how the world came to be as you knew it. And the world will keep falling apart until there is nothing left unless the sisters are brought together again. There has been a major lack of balance since before ancient times. The sons are selfish. They want to take the daughters for wives and make them mother more demons. If that happens, Danya, the world will be destroyed. As legend states, the sisters are each in charge of certain things that maintain this world. Goddesses of different things, if you will. When the sisters are together again, the world will be in balance. That is why you need to find them. Each of you is destined for different things, just as you are meant to bring them together." She seemed like she was reading from a big book. But, she simply was remembering the legend that has been passed from daughter to daughter since the world 'ended'. Her eyes were in a faraway time and place. "Prudence?" I seemed to snap her back to reality. "Carry on, find your sisters. Restore peace to our kind." and here I thought the woman didn't care about anyone but herself... I have been proven wrong. "Beware of the dangers that lie outside of our barrier, Danya. They will all be trying to get their hands on you. They work for the sons." I looked at Adrian; he seemed pleased for some reason. "Are you ready?" he asked me. "Ready as I'll ever be." Boy was I wrong. Nothing could have prepared me for what was to follow our little meeting. "We needed to go east first. We can't risk going out of town to the south again; the ghouls will find us there." That has to be the smartest thing he has told me so far. "Okay, what if they find us here?" I didn't want to encounter these 'ghouls' again if I could help it. "I will protect you no matter what." His expression went dark, like he too was thinking about the past and the legend. "Adrian, did you have a family once?" it was a touchy subject, I know. But if it could keep me from going crazy until I found my own again, I had to ask. He sighed. "Yes, I had a family once. Did you think I was just born like this?" He made a mock look of offense. I couldn't help but laugh. "Do you ever miss them?" I really was curious. If I had to spend the rest of my life without Cian and Lilly well, I really didn't want to finish that thought. "Every second of everyday I miss them. I also miss not having a nosy sudo princess prying into my past." He cut me a look that had danger all over it. “I’m sorry, I figured it was a touchy subject but, I asked anyways." I felt ashamed and selfish. We had reached the outskirts of town, heading east. "Pay close attention to everything around you. Be careful, and stay close." He was dead serious. We passed through the barrier and it's like we walked straight into another dimension. Everything was in ruins. I could see where my beloved city used to be. The weathered buildings were among the only things still standing. The bridge going over the river was completely gone, and the once paved roads are now reduced to barren dirt. I started to tear up when I heard a scream that snapped me out of my pool of self-pity and sadness. "I know I wasn't the only one who heard that." I looked at Adrian; he was like a jungle cat ready to pounce. "It came from the book store over there." I remembered that building very well that was the first place I went when I moved here. "Let's go!" I yelled at him, urged him to follow. "No we leave it alone. We don't know what is in there. Keep moving." I can't believe the nerve of this guy. "We are supposed to be looking for the other sisters and you tell me to ignore this? What the hell has gotten into you? Some fearless protector." I started at a run to the bookstore. When I reached the door, everything was quiet. There was no light on in the store, no books on the shelves, and no store keep greeting me. I was instantly upset. My best friend was the shop keep. "Danya, don't go in there." the look in his eyes sent a cold chill down my spine. He looked scared. "We need to go. You cannot be here. Not right now." I ran into the store anyway. I thought I had seen someone. In fact, I know I did. "Hello?" I whispered. "Iris? Are you here? It's me, Danya." I knew it was no good but, I couldn't help but wonder to myself, what if she was in the same position as I was? "She isn't here, princess." said a shadow in the corner. "Who are you?" It was a dumb move, I know. But I figured, why not? "I am Ryan." I started backing slowly out of the store. I didn't need anyone to tell me that he was one of the sons, I just knew. I kept backing myself toward the door. I backed right into a cold set of arms. I turned to see what looked like one of my ex-boyfriends except the fact that he looked like he was dead. He was dead, I thought. "Don’t mind him, that would be my bodyguard. Do you know him?" So it was him! I can't believe it. It took me over two years to get away from him stalking me, and yet here he was holding me in place. "Let me go, Aaron." I was hoping to get a response from him, maybe strike his memory a little. "He can't talk right now. You see, he isn't alive but he isn't dead either." Why do these things keep happening? If Aaron is alive, then Cian and Lilly could be too. I felt a sliver of hope. Maybe there is a silver lining to this messed up cloud that I've recently landed myself on. Adrian was banging on the door, trying to get to me. But for some reason he just couldn't break the glass. "You will be coming with me this evening, I hope you are prepared to dine with the beast." he finally came out of the shadows. Ryan was a very tall, pale man with long blonde hair. He kinda looked like Adrian. I would have to ask him about it if I made it out of this alive. "I will NOT go with you, and you WILL let me go now." I wasn't in a mood to be messed with, and they were really starting to piss me off. First, they trashed the bookstore, then they took Iris, and to put the icing on the cake, he had to bring Aaron (my stalker of an ex-boyfriend) into the equation. "Sorry princess, but you don't have a choice." he bent down to eye level and looked directly into my eyes. His stare sent chills into my very soul. I silently begged the goddess to save me. "Again, I was not simply requesting me to let you go, that was an order." Aaron shook behind me. "I will never let you go again." Aaron finally spoke. "I won't lose you again. I missed you so much and when the world ended, I was afraid that I would never even see your beautiful face again.
