Closer Glimpses : Chapter 9

215 Words
The next morning, Rooh was walking back from college again. Her mind was still on the elderly man and the small house from the previous day. With each step, her curiosity grew, but she kept herself in check, knowing this was someone’s personal space. As she neared the house, Rooh slowed down and observed carefully. The elderly man was in his room again, this time sitting on a chair, looking through some old books. There was a unique spark in his eyes, as if each book held a hidden story. Rooh (thinking): He must be a permanent resident… or perhaps a relative of someone here? But how is he so alone? She stepped a little closer, still keeping her distance. The elderly man glanced at her, offered a faint smile, and then returned to his books. Rooh (thinking): This man is unusual… and perhaps his story is something I should know. But how? Rooh decided that sometime soon, when the moment was right, she would try to meet him gently. Her curiosity was mixed with a touch of fear and respect. She continued on her way, but this time, in her mind, the elderly man already felt like a key part of a secret or story that might soon bring something new into her life.
