Another Thought: Chapter 5

402 Words
Rooh opens her diary and starts writing. Rooh (in her thoughts): "Some relationships don’t need words… they only grow stronger through silence. Maybe my bond with Zayan is the same." Murad comes in laughing: Murad: "Apa, are you writing complaints against me in your diary? By the way, today again those goats chased me on the way to school. They’ve become my number one enemy!" Rooh closes her pen and smiles: Rooh: "No Murad, I was writing a prayer for you… that you make friends with the goats." Murad: "Haww… that can never happen!" Both of them laugh. --- In the morning, everyone is sitting at the breakfast table. Amma sips her tea angrily and says: Amma: "Why is the tea so tasteless again today?" Abu: "Oh, the salt is already in your words, why does the tea need it?" Everyone bursts into laughter. Murad shouts: Murad: "Abu is right, Amma’s words have both spice and salt!" Everyone says: "Be quiet, Murad!" Rooh also laughs, her giggles lighting up her face. Rooh (to herself): "Sometimes the smallest family moments become the biggest happiness." --- Laiba seems a little serious. Rooh: "Is everything okay? You seem quiet today." Laiba (quickly): "No… just tired." Rooh looks into her eyes and understands there’s something else, but she stays silent. --- In the canteen, Rooh is a little away. Laiba stands alone. Zayan comes over. Zayan: "Assalamualaikum, you’re Laiba, right? Rooh’s friend?" Laiba: "Yes… Wa alaikum salam. That’s me." Zayan (smiling): "Rooh’s friends are important to me as well. Stay happy." Zayan leaves. Laiba watches him walk away, her eyes slightly teary and a forced smile on her face. Laiba (to herself): "If only… but no. He belongs to Rooh. I must remain just a friend." --- Zayan and Rooh are talking (in the library/on a call). Zayan: "Sometimes it feels impossible to manage everything… family, studies, the future." Rooh: "Life will always feel difficult if we try to carry it on our own strength. But if we keep Allah with us… it becomes so much lighter." Zayan goes quiet, lost in her words. --- At night, Rooh stands on the balcony, gazing at the sky. Rooh (in her thoughts): "The secrets of the heart sometimes hide in prayers… and sometimes turn into desires that leave a person restless. I don’t know what’s in Laiba’s heart… but one thing is clear… everything is about to change."
