Chapter 2: Turbulent Undercurrents

Outside the headquarters of the Glorious Corporation, an autumn rain began to fall, the droplets tapping softly against the glass windows. Li Wenhao stood in his office, gazing pensively at the city’s nighttime skyline. His mind echoed with his father’s teachings and his brother Mingxuan's cold words. As the illegitimate son of the family, he had long played the role of the silent observer. But now, he felt that the time had finally come. Wenhao moved back to his desk, his phone lighting up with a familiar name: Yang Zhiqiang. The deep, steady voice on the other end of the call was calm but resolute: "Wenhao, my team is ready. Just give the word, and we can proceed." Wenhao smiled faintly, his fingers tapping lightly on the desk. "Don’t rush, Mr. Yang. The time isn’t right yet. My father's decision remains unclear. I can’t afford to move too soon." “I know what you seek, Wenhao,” Yang Zhiqiang’s voice carried a seductive tone, “You’re not content to be just another pawn in your family. You have talent, you have ambition. I can offer you a shortcut.” A cold glint flashed in Wenhao’s eyes. He had always known that, despite his exceptional business acumen, he remained on the outskirts of his family’s trust. Mingxuan, the favored elder brother, had basked in their father’s glory, carrying the mantle of "future heir," despite a string of lackluster performances in recent years. “I’m not one to shy away from opportunity,” Wenhao replied, his tone betraying no emotion, as if every move had been meticulously calculated. “But what I want is far more than just a slice of the family empire. I want the whole game.” Yang Zhiqiang chuckled, amused by the ambition. “I admire your boldness. Very well, just give me the signal, and we will move in unison. But remember, if you delay too long, the situation may spiral out of control.” “Don’t worry, Mr. Yang,” Wenhao’s voice was light, dripping with confidence, “I know exactly what I’m doing.” After ending the call, Wenhao leaned back in his chair, his gaze deep and contemplative. His plan had long been laid out: using Yang Zhiqiang as an external ally to incite internal conflict within the family, eventually forcing his father’s hand. Mingxuan may be his elder brother, but that did not mean Wenhao would forever live in his shadow. In this family, survival was a matter of strength, not seniority, and Wenhao had grown tired of being the lamb beneath the wolf's paw. --- **Meanwhile, another conversation was unfolding.** In another building within the Glorious Corporation complex, Li Mingxuan was engaged in a secret meeting with his longtime confidant, Li Wei. Wei had been Mingxuan’s trusted friend since childhood, and now, as a successful investment banker, his keen instincts and vast experience had proven invaluable to Mingxuan in navigating the business world. “I can feel it—Father’s trust in me is wavering,” Mingxuan said with a heavy sigh, his brow furrowed. “Lately, he’s been showing increasing interest in Wenhao. He hasn’t said anything outright, but I can sense his leanings.” Li Wei, seated across from him, wore a thoughtful expression. “You’re not imagining it, Mingxuan. As your father ages, he seeks a successor with not just strength, but adaptability. Wenhao, in some ways, has shown more agility than you. Your steadiness is an asset, but to your father, it may appear too cautious at times.” Mingxuan clenched his fist tightly. “I know. But I won’t let Wenhao steal what’s rightfully mine. The Glorious Corporation is my responsibility, my future. I cannot afford to fail.” Wei nodded thoughtfully, reclining in his chair. “The current situation does place you at a disadvantage, but that doesn’t mean you’re without options. What you need is a turning point—a way to show your father that you’re the only rightful heir.” “Do you have a plan?” Mingxuan asked, a flicker of hope in his eyes. “I’ve been watching Yang Zhiqiang’s moves closely,” Wei said, his voice low and measured. “He’s been quietly acquiring shares in the company, clearly eyeing the Glorious Corporation. And Wenhao has been unusually bold lately. I suspect there’s an undisclosed alliance between them. If you can expose their secret dealings, or alert your father to Yang’s threat, you may be able to shift the balance.” Mingxuan fell silent, his mind racing through Wei’s suggestions. This was indeed an opportunity—if he could prove himself capable of neutralizing both internal and external threats, his father might reconsider his stance. “All right, I’ll investigate Yang Zhiqiang’s movements,” Mingxuan finally said, his eyes filled with resolve. “No matter what, I won’t let Wenhao succeed.” --- **Elsewhere, Li Xueli sat alone in her apartment, staring absently at the rain-soaked window.** In recent days, the tension within the family had become palpable, the growing hostility between her brothers impossible to ignore. Though she had always tried to remain neutral, Xueli knew that in a conflict as deep as this, neutrality was an illusion. No one could truly remain unaffected, not even her. Her phone suddenly lit up, snapping her out of her reverie. It was a call from Sun Mei, the family’s longtime legal advisor. Sun Mei had served the Li family for decades, weathering many storms and intrigues, and Xueli held her in high regard. “Aunt Sun, is something the matter?” Xueli answered. On the other end, Sun Mei’s steady voice spoke with characteristic calm. “Xueli, I’ve come across some troubling news and felt it was important to inform you. The company’s share structure is becoming increasingly complicated. Yang Zhiqiang has already acquired a portion of the shares from smaller shareholders, and your father doesn’t seem to be in full control of the situation.” Xueli frowned. “Has Yang Zhiqiang already started moving? I thought he was merely probing.” “He’s moving faster than we anticipated. And his ties with Wenhao are growing closer. This power struggle within the family may be far more intricate than we initially thought.” Xueli remained silent for a few moments, a sense of urgency creeping into her thoughts. She had never been directly involved in the core operations of the family business, content to play a supporting role. But now, the situation no longer allowed her to stay on the sidelines. “I understand, Aunt Sun. Thank you for the warning.” Xueli ended the call, her mind awhirl with conflicting thoughts. A decision had to be made—she could no longer be a passive observer. Mingxuan was her brother, but Wenhao was still her kin. Somehow, she would have to find a way to prevent the family from fracturing completely. --- **Night had fallen deeply, yet Yang Zhiqiang’s office remained brightly lit.** He stood by the window, gazing down at the sprawling city below, his heart filled with the anticipation of imminent victory. The internal strife within the Li family had presented him with the perfect opportunity, and now, all he had to do was wait patiently for the moment when the conflict reached its peak. An assistant entered the room, handing him a report. “Mr. Yang, here is the latest update on our stock acquisitions. We currently hold 5% of the company’s scattered shares, and from here…” “Excellent,” Yang Zhiqiang interrupted with a satisfied nod. “Increase the pace. When the family’s infighting escalates, I want to ensure we have enough leverage at the critical moment.” He turned, his gaze cold and determined. “The more intense the Li family’s conflict, the more advantageous it will be for us.” --- In this battle for the Glorious Corporation, everyone was calculating their future—ambition and desire, betrayal and loyalty, all colliding in a maelstrom of power. Yet, the real storm had yet to fully descend. As the bonds between the Li brothers frayed, and outside forces began to encroach upon the family’s empire, one question lingered: Could the Glorious Corporation survive the coming turmoil? And who would ultimately emerge victorious? One thing was certain: the true battle was only just beginning.
